[Rumour] "Teams eyeing down Kesler & Edler" - Ownership prevented Kesler trade

Recommended Posts

We were discussing it earlier but if that's the way it goes...

Kesler

for

Sutter, Depres/Pouliot, 1st

Edler, 2nd

for

Killorn, Connolly <----- we aren't getting Drouin

Those both seem like reasonable returns and push our retool full steam ahead.

Edler for Connolly straight up, that guy has some serious sniping ability. Plus a BC born player usually plays better in Vancouver. Sakic, Benn, Johanssen, etc. usually have their best games playing in Vancouver.

The main issue is that Diaz, Weber and Corrado cannot do what edler does, either alone or together. Which again comes down to us needing more than just a simple D man or a simple top 6 player. To many holes masked by to many bandaids.

And who says we cant use the offseason for a RHD? His physicality will be missed but its also only for 22 games...Ya nothing is a simple 1 or 2 players but again we have everything in the system that fills those needs that can make a good push to make the roster next year...Don't need rash need patience and to make a smart trade or 2...Hansen for 2 2nds Edler for a young top6 center(NOT ROR...closer to a playmaker not another 2way) then allow the season to run...Offseason if players want out move them but otherwise I don't

Gaunce/Horvat to take the 3rd line center role Shink has the possibility of making it depending on how his conditioning is at camp...We also have Jensen who has a good chance and with Kassian continuing to improve things are looking good

Booth will probably be gone next year and I would add Schroeder in with Edler for that top6 center we need that frees up some positions...Here is an example of what lines could look like

Sedin-Sedin-Kesler

Shink/Higgins/Burrows-trade-Kassian

Higgins/Gaunce/Burrows-Horvat/Gaunce/Santo-Santo/Jensen/Grenier

Sestito-Lain-Archibald/Grenier

Hamhuis-Tanev

Garrison-Diaz/UFA

Stanton-Diaz/Corrado

Lu

Lack

Yes those lines are not pretty but they also are something more like what we would want rather then do a complete blowup and be nowhere for a long time

take our tradeable assets (apparently everyone except the sedins) and move them to get the following

1. A future top D man

2.A future 1C

3.A future scoring winger hopefully with size

Kesler, Corrado, schroeder, sauve to Buffalo for their #1 pick and the Islanders # 1 pick this year or next year

-draft Ekblad

-draft scoring winger with islanders pick or our pick

Edler, and Luongo to florida for Campbell and their #1 pick

-draft reinhart with the florida pick

Matta, Beau Bennet, Pouliot for Kesler, sauve

The Vancouver #Canucks & Columbus #BlueJackets plan on being both buyers and sellers as we approach the March 5th trade deadline and the two teams could become trading partners! The Canucks are looking to acquire a Top 6 center and are actively shopping D Alexander Edler. Vancouver tried to trade Edler at last year's draft but came up empty despite interest from the#RedWings & #Canadiens. Meanwhile, the #BlueJackets are looking to improve on D while they shop Marian Gaborik. Columbus has their eyes on #Islanders D Andrew MacDonald but like Edler as a secondary option if they lose out on MacDonald to the many other teams interested. Both Vancouver & Columbus have shown interest in each other's players but it's unclear if a Gaborik-Edler swap would work for both teams. Teams have also been calling the Canucks about Ryan Kesler's availability while in Columbus, they are also in the market for a depth winger

If Pitts is interested and pushing for Kesler then Maata / Pouliot with Bennett and a pick or picks is something id like to see Gillis look out. I could see Edler being a piece for them too since Letang is out for awhile and Martin just got hurt too.

A pipe dream would be Edler for Skinner but doubtful Carolina does that.

NYI could also be an intriguing place for Edler with MacDonald being a pending UFA maybe Mac + Nelson & 2nd 3rd or a 1st depending on what they land for Vanek ( if they land anything).

Replace Gaborik with Johansen.

Gaborik coming here would be laughable when he fizzles out in a few years.

What a terrible joke.

You'd be heavily underselling Edler with that trade IMHO, and I like Connolly. I think he'll wear an A at some point.

TB has a recent glut of young players at forward so they could spare Connolly easily in this 2 for 1. Connolly hasn't gotten a real shot yet (with Palat, Kucherov, Brown, Panik jumping over him) and they have some good centres on the farm too.

Maybe they won't trade Killorn with Filppula out but we could definitely be expecting one of the aforementioned wingers along with Connelly.

We really should trade Kesler if it looks like we'll be getting a good return. At this point, he's the perfect trade candidate. Edler should definitely also be a candidate for a move.

The return we could get from Detroit, Philadelphia and Ottawa would absolutely make this worthwhile.

This team looks fatigued and needs to move a lot of bodies out because right now we're not going to win a damn thing.

You're dreaming if you think Pittsburgh would take Maatta off of their roster.

They have bunch of other great D prospects that it would be better for the Canucks to target because they would be more freely moved. Buy low remember.

Depres

Dumolin

Pouliot

Harrington

Bortuzzo

Depending on the others pieces, that's a lot to choose from without being stuck on Maatta.

Haven't heard enough Philly-speculation. They'd prob love Kesler's defensive game to match up with eastern rival-centres(especially Crosby/Malkin).

Holmgren's got that itchy trigger-finger, to deal anytime.

Funny though..my poor ol' memory can't recall these two teams dealing(is there a dislike?) for an eternity(think I remember Kevin McCarthy deal, early '80s?)...
