We are enduring a challenging period, but your passion makes it possible for us to put our team in a position to compete.

Well that just warms the cockles of my heart. The best business decision he can make now is giving discounts on tickets in exchange for passion.

Yet another sign of just how worried they are about season ticket holders renewing.

I dunno bro. The 4th most valuable team according to Forbes, a lineup 74 miles long for seasons tickets. I don't think Gillis worries much about corporate and season ticket support. There will always be a large pool of silver, haired rich folk salivating over season tickets. Gillis pretty much had to come out with this given how STANKY the team is these days.

You obviously don't remember the Messier era. The team was in very real danger of relocating.

As pigs fly through over the frozen tundra of hell. Not going to happen.

There's no 74 mile long line up. I've spoken to dozens of STH's who are all dropping their tickets, many of whom have held them for 15 or 20 years. We aren't Toronto, Montreal, or New York. Those markets will sell tickets whether the team is winning or losing. Vancouver has a proven track record of dumping the team the second they start losing.

I am sure a lot of people got this but couldn't find a post on it already, some interesting things said that come straight from the GM's mouth (pen);

With the trade deadline a week behind us, I wanted to communicate directly with our Season Ticket Members. You are a very important part of the Canucks family, and I’d like to give you more insight into last week’s developments and our plan for the team going forward.

In addition, I will be inviting you to participate in a webcast after I get home from the GM meetings and upcoming road trip. I want to articulate our plans with you openly and want to give you an opportunity to ask questions so that you have a greater understanding of the vision.

Our mission remains the same: to win the Stanley Cup. Last summer we said we had to make some changes to our team. We need to get younger, faster and stronger to succeed. That process is happening now, as we look to retool by surrounding our veteran stars with new, young talent. You can look at Anaheim as a recent example of a team that has retooled successfully.

Trading Roberto was not an easy decision. We are grateful for his tremendous contribution to our team and city, and we wish him much success. But the moves we've made go beyond goaltending. We are now younger and we are getting deeper. We've added a big, strong 6'4" centre in Shawn Matthias, who is excited to be here and will help this team now. And we believe in our talented group of prospects, including Bo Horvat, Nicklas Jensen, Frank Corrado, Dane Fox, Brendan Gaunce and Hunter Shinkaruk, who will be part of our short and long-term success. We are also well positioned financially, having created over $5 million in cap room to make the right deals for this team. That's in addition to the $7 million we expect the salary cap to increase next season.

We approached the deadline with long-term success in mind. We were prepared to make a hockey deal on trade deadline day, not a short-term fix. The players offered at the deadline did not fit our vision of where we want our team to go. We need to get younger and more balanced to be more competitive, and we didn’t see the right players to accomplish that goal. We are not willing to compromise our long-term vision for the sake of change.

We are committed to putting a winning team on the ice for you. Our ownership is supportive and will invest whatever it takes to bring the Cup to Vancouver. As we move towards this goal we will continue to invest in your arena and Canucks fan experience.

Thank you again for your continued support. We are enduring a challenging period, but your passion makes it possible for us to put our team in a position to compete. Our organization is committed to doing whatever it takes to win, and we want you to be here with us when we achieve our goal.

Sincerely,

Is that the first time GMMG has mentioned his name all season!?

You obviously don't remember the Messier era. The team was in very real danger of relocating.

I am old, I remember the Messier era all to well, I remember the look in TL's eyes as Douchier cross checked him in the face after the whistle and on his knees. I remember thinking why are they stripping the C from my favorite player and giving it to the biggest douche in the universe. I remember it like it was yesterday. There is a huge difference between then and now. I don't think the team was going to move then, and I am 99.999999% sure the team is going to be a cash cow for Aquaman for years. The doom and gloom of the CDC is comical, success comes and then it goes, and then it comes, and then it goes...and while this happens, the bandwagon swells, and then it shrinks and then it swells, and then it shrinks, and when it is all swollen and busting out, you get a lot of people complaining about the wrong things. Not you, I'm just saying in general.

Because the loses are great if a STH (even just one icepack subscriber) drops out.

My prediction is this:

1. some lower bowl STH folks that are real fans will want to keep their tickets but would move up to the cheaper upper bowl seats.

2. the cooperate STH (suite or just seat owners) will continue to pay up. It is a business decision for them.

3. Some upperbowl seats and a lot more lower bowl seats will be available for the Blueline (waitlist) people.

the sellout streak will end but we will still have a good portion of the rink filled.

the reality is a lot of us are addicted to the Canucks...it's like crack cocaine....we know it is bad (for our wallets) but we keep coming back for more.
