on the cycle
He would be perfect for a contenders' 4th line. Good defensively, good size and physicality, good skating, and can contribute around 25-35 points if played with good players. I would rather have Etem, Gaunce, or Kenins instead though. WetPaint
I don't think they waive him. If he gets injured they can't do a buyout. Only $833000 each year over the next 2 seasons. Canucks would probably retain around that if they get a late draft pick.
Canucks Curse
he will get waived. Etem, Shinkaruk and Gaunce should be ahead of him. No one will want him and his six pack. He is too expensive. I could see teams wanting him at a reduced cap hit but if I was JB I would only take on some cap if it is for a 2nd round pick or higher, which I doubt anyone offers. He is utica bound - and actually - he would help the franchise there a lot - that is nearish to where he grew up, he is a high quality individual and can help reming young players not to party too hard when they hit the big time - seeing as that is what de-railed his career. aGENT
Hallelujah! Though this looks a lot like a hail Mary move to try and help him stay in the NHL somewhere before waiving him. Given that reality, I doubt his NTC has any bearing at all anymore.
b3.
Wow! According to Elliote Freidman, he won't even be or play with the team until this resolved! Quote Higgins will not play while VAN searches for match. Told he has not asked for a trade, but team is trying to find a landing spot for him. https://twitter.com/FriedgeHNIC/status/686263197410717696?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw
Neutral
I think with him not being around the team period, he is likely to be moved fairly quickly. If he isnt practicing or playing as time goes on that wont help him stay in game shape but it will prevent any chance of injury
Hugor Hill
Dude has been a warrior for us. Hope he stays in the NHL. Torts and AV love the guy. See if he goes to Columbus or Rangers.
HC20.0
It is definitely time for us and Higgins to move on. He was a good player for us, and he stepped up when asked to on the second line, but just like Bieksa, his best before date has come and gone. He has been brutal this year, and that's being nice. Hopefully he lands a good home, but this was a long time coming.
Nucks780
It's tough to see a guy's play drop off so much. Especially only at the age of 32. I know injuries don't help. Wish the guy all the luck in the world.
CANUCK-EXPRESS
One year at 2.5M and NTC. I'd guess his value is 5th-7th Rd pick or a decent prospect. IMO he'd likely get waived.
Neutral
Torts and AV did like him. But rangers are tight with cap space, and Columbus would likely want hartnell or clarkson off their books. Not sure what columbus would offer us for him. Rychel has asked out, but even if we add to higgins with a prospect like grenier would they have interest or would that be enough? I know a lot of ppl on here want to see Grenier on the Canucks, but maybe Benning doesnt see him becoming an nhler?
Fateless
I'm surprised they won't let him play or travel with the team while they figure out what to do with him. It means one of two things; 1) they expect a decision to be made immediately about a potential trade or waive, or 2) something happened between the team and Higgins. I expect its the former rather than the latter, but this is a pretty strange way to about finding a trading partner.
HC20.0
I also wonder now. Since the Canucks are definitely going to move Higgins... How much longer does Burrows have here? Both have regressed greatly in play, and are occupying roster spots that could be given to players like Gaunce or Shinkaruk.
Hoosierdaddy
I think he's headed to Utica. After watching his play this year I find it hard to believe he's worth even a fourth. Beauty is obviously in the eye of the beholder though. 2.5 for a fourth liner who doesn't play physical or contribute offensively seems like a big ask. on the cycle
The islanders have $4.5 million in cap space. If we trade Higgins and Hamhuis we'd have to take back at least 2.5 million or retain salary for both guys (which is more likely). We could take a Hamonic($3.85), De Haan($2.2), or Hickey($1.96). Ilya Mikheyev
WHY IS THERE A PRESS RELEASE FOR THIS? WTF?
R3aL
Is the purpose of this announcement to let the league know quick he's available or to let us know?Don't understand the decision to announce before. anyways, Higgins.. Any takers?
Fozzy
The guy has been a true soldier for the Canucks the past five years. It's sad his game has regressed but that's age. Defensively he is still very good, very dependable and hopefully he'll still have an NHL career on a 4th line somewhere after this is resolved. He's a real team guy so I have no doubt he'll help the young guys in Utica if required, I wish him well.
Ilya Mikheyev
I mean obviously Higgy should be moved before next UFA day, but why a press release?
