Without risk, there is no reward.. A common cliche' that you may have heard many times?

the difference is some people actually have the balls to calculate that risk,  and ultimately take it.

the proof of this teams demise or successions  will not  beheld  accountable in this ONE single transaction,..  But after the amount of many yet to come.

its a great trade,.  Naslund showed less promise  than Granlund at 22yrs.

Um Benning is trying to take no risks..

As per @BenKuzma:  Granlund at centre with Vey/Etem at #Canucks practice. Vey also taking draws.

and @News1130Sports:  Granlund on centre or wing : "Centre for sure."

It looks like he might be competing with Vey for the C position. So how do they compare...

In 31 games this season - he has 3 goals and 4 assists.  Vey has played 23 games this season and has 2 goals and 7 assists.

Overall he played an average of 13min a night - that's more than Baertschi on the Canucks and quite a bit more than the 9min Hartley gave Baertschi in his last season with them.  So a sign that he is more trusted/valued.

Vey played 15:30 on average but has seen his average gradually increase and is now at the 17min mark in February.

He played a total of 13min on the PP - that's just as much as Virtanen this season  (Baertschi didn't get special teams in his last season and an average of 1min before).  I am going to say that Granlund is not a PP specialist.   Vey leads the young forwards (slightly ahead of Horvat) - at roughly 1:50.

He played an average of 1:10 on the PK though and maybe he could help out Horvat there.  Vey has an average of slightly above 30secs.  Horvat is at 2:20.

He has a zone start percentage at 5v5 of 60% - that put's him slightly ahead of the Sedins who are the leaders on this team.  By comparison Vey is at 44% over the season but is over 50% in February as the Horvat line is playing more and more of a shutdown role.

In face-offs - 45% for Granlund and 47% for Vey.  (Side note Vey is slightly better than Horvat in D-zone face-offs where the player has to put first the stick on the ice so why is it systematically Horvat taking them).

Granlund's P/60 is 1.04 this season (31 games) and 1.5 over his time as a Flame (86 games).   By comparison Baertschi's was 2+ as a Flame in 66 games (his numbers went down once Burke took over as his minutes went down).  Over the season Vey is 1.5 which is close to Horvat's (Baertschi stayed at ~2).  To note - Baertschi, Horvat are at +2.30 over the same time span as Vey (recall since the Detroit game when they found their offence).

Why would I support him? I've seen him play 30-40 games in Calgary and you know what? Each game he blew me away with how useless he was and now we just traded Shinkaruk for him? We have the worst scouts and gm in the league.

That I highly doubt.JB is cleaning up what MG did to this team and making us younger. He drafted us players that are playing in the NHL unlike MG!I just think a couple moves were questionable but altogether he has done a great job and is doing what he said he would!

when a risk fails you put your team in a hole, because in the future this is a divisional rival and a team that you will meet in the playoffs. So seeing Hunter score on us will be a new experience, now we can feel what leaf fans went through. Remember Seguin.

Seqiuin had nothing to do with us.. And no-body knows what real issues were in play there.

Shinkaruks' greatest analyst  would have been T.Greene,.  I bet there is a better player to keep in his system, given the PP opportunities Shink has capitalized on, may say more about his ease of scoring prowess, than his complete game.. Something TG would have been consulted on, and a group descion made amongst scouts and management.  Breathe deep Desi,.  Ever been pleasantly surprised ?

Thats about it right there haha.

At first look I am not too keen on this deal, but from what I read he has good skill, why are so many posting he is destined to be a bottom six plugger ? Did I miss something ?

I was right with you Mike but that's just us being fans of Hunters.. Understandable

you didn't miss anything.. Just CDCrs doing what they do.. Overreacting before they have a clue of the facts or the whole story :)

He has done a terrible job. This team would look much better with Ehlers and giving Shinkaruk a chance this year instead of having 2 practically worthless rookies who just ate up a year of their rookie contracts. He has signed Weber and Bartkowski and looked at our defense this year and thought it was solid. I can go on and on but this guy is clueless. He is building the next Toronto Maple leafs.

The Vikings expanded the horizon with their orgies years ago,. Our modern day confusion is a direct result of that. ;)

Hmmm no, that was after Vikings  Finland was part of the Swedish Kingdom from the 13th to the early 19th century...

I just do not think Benning has really done anything so bad.hunter would be on the team if they thought he should be there or proved he should.AHL is not the NHL and Hunter was given a shot to make the team and he didn't and probably wouldn't have made this team next year.We got a player that in the minors had stats the same if not a bit better and has made the NHL which in my books makes this trade so far better for us.Changes had to happen and we all knew this, but if trades are not what people like I can only say thats life not all is what we want!

Except he doesn't have better AHL stats when you take into account the major surgery Shinkaruk had in the summer of his first AHL year. You can take it from Kesler who had the same surgery and was saying how hard it is to play when you don't have the summer to train. For a rookie the first time ever playing against pro's, the odds were stacked against him. This year was the year that was going to show if he could compete and he has done more than compete he has ripped it up. Who knows what he does next year with another summer to get in even better shape.

I'm really starting to warm up to Granlund. He will be pretty useful for us over the next 3 years, especially if he can keep improving. Right now, he can step into our lineup and provide some stability. Next year he can replace McCann when he goes to the AHL. Later, he can hopefully make the adjustment to LW.
