The rules are in place so that the CHL dosn't lose all of its talent to the AHL.

A nice compromise would be to allow all NHL teams 1 player that can be exempt from CHL and head to AHL provided they sign with the big club and could possibly eat up a year of his ELC so teams would have to be sure that they would want to commit to that certain player.

I like it

You guys should temper expectations when it comes to his face offs this season. There's. A big jump from juniors to rhe NHL, that being said, Id expect him to be our best face off man in 3 seasons.

I'd probably guess he goes about 45% this year, for the 9'games at least

This.. people boasting Bo's faceoff prowess need a reality check. I've been saying it for a while now as well.

Which again, is still an improvement over Vey's/Mathias's 40%. I don't need to temper anything

Yes, but the difference is not significant enough to warrant keeping Bo since he doesn't do anything else particularly well. Vey can score and Matthias is big and has NHL experience - he is at least as good and probably better than Bo defensively. If not for strong faceoffs, Bo doesn't stand out and will be sent down IMO.

Some of his biggest strengths are his defensive play and ability on the faceoff dot.

He was winning draws against NHLers during the preseason so I don't think it will be much of a problem for him.

He is still better than Vey and Matthias on faceoffs in my mind.

Against a split squad San Jose team once, and mostly against Calgary and Edmonton - Calgary was the league's worst in faceoffs last season and Edmonton doesn't have a NHL center outside of RNH. In the one game where Bo actually faced a decent faceoff team in Arizona, he was 40%. See my response to J.R. above - even if Bo is still better than Vey and Matthias, if he doesn't excel at faceoffs, he's not much better in any other area to warrant a roster spot.

i'd honestly be surprised if the nucks don't loan him for the WJC.

I'd honestly be surprised if the nucks are in a position to loan him for the WJC.

With the way Cole Cassels is ripping up the OHL, I think management might want to see if Horvat also has that extra gear of offense in junior (better for his long-term development IMO) unless he really really impresses and shows that he clearly belongs here.

Vey belongs on the 2nd/3rd line RW (swapping with Kassian as their play merits) IMO. He doesn't really suit a bottom 6 (particularly a 4th line) role.

Mathias has shown literally nothing to force Bo out. We'll see but I'd wager Bo's better defensively and uses his size more effectively (or at all  ). If he can improve on Mathias' FO's as well... Bo's also far more likely to actually improve on all of those things with more playing time and coaching.

The only thing keeping Mathias in right now is his NHL experience and that Bo's been unavailable. Sooner than later though, that's not going to be enough. I welcome him to prove me wrong and force Bo back to Jr.

Am I the only person (of course I'm not, but it sounds more dramatic this way) who feels Matthias has been nothing short of completely useless so far this season? I don't see what some people seem to see in him aside from his size. He's speedy, but doesn't seem to really do anything with the speed. He's not good enough defensively to be a defensive specialist, he's not good enough offensively to play top six, he doesn't win draws...

I just don't really see what he brings to the team, at all.

I'm not saying that I expect Bo to steal his job. If Horvat doesn't show that he's more than slightly better than Matthias, I fully expect him to be returned to Jr. as it wouldn't make sense for him to stay up for the slightest of improvement to the lineup. In that case, I would be more than happy to see Horvat returned to the Knights for another season of development and playing in a leadership role.

I'm just confused as to what Matthias' role is supposed to be on this team, I guess.

I like Vey on the 4th line because it gives our 4th line some offense.

Matthias has been quiet, to be sure, but that's exactly the game Bo brings at this point in his development.

If Bo's faceoffs aren't a strength, I'd rather see what he can do in the OHL like Cassels.

Thing is, Vey's offense would do better with higher quality line mates on higher lines IMO. And Bo brings better defense more appropriate to the role.

Mathias hasn't been quiet, he's been inconsequential at best and plain bad at worse. Again, we'll see but I don't find it unreasonable to think Horvat could do better and improve quickly.

I agree. He'd make an epic AHLer but he's not above average in any skill set at the NHL level.

mediocre. He's better overall than Dorsett or tostito, but not at the things we need in the bottom 3, and he doesnt outplay Vey, Richardson or Hansen for the top 9. $2m for a depth C is silly.

As a season ticket holder I've been watching Matthias live. As everyone knows, or should know, when watching live you get to focus on a player rather than getting just what the tv camera chooses to show. So I have watched hi. I gotta say this. He is not gonna stick long term. There is a lack of drive to his game. He reminds me of Pyatt. Big, occasionally involved but really not a guy we are gonna be able to count on.

I don't think I'm wrong on this - but time will tell. My guess is he is here for at most the rest of this season but no more. I would think it is likely that he spends at least some part of the year in the press box and is packaged in a trade or in lieu of that is not resigned at the end of the year. Sad to say but I think that is the truth.

As for Bo. He will get his chance to shine. He will take a little time to develop but the consenus on him is that he will be an impactful 2nd or 3rd line center in the NHL and I believe that to be true. When you watch him live he is a bull. He skates well, has good balance, good vision and makes smart plays. In time he will reach his potential. Matthias never had the upside that Bo has. No one ever projected Matthias to be a good as Bo is projected to be. Bo will be better. Matthias will be gone.
