Trying to tell people on here that is like pounding a square peg into a round hole.

They could trade Johns for a LHD which would open up a spot for Tanev on the right.

Tanev, 55th, prospect for 3OA

Dallas can then trade Johns, 29th and 55th to LVG for a lefty (or any team that will bite). One of Dumba, Scandella, etc. (Sorry not sure which of the two plays left).

As with last month's 27-team mock draft, there's no change at the top of our board, with Nico Hischier going first overall to the New Jersey Devils and Nolan Patrick going second to the Philadelphia Flyers.

In this edition, we're running on the assumption that the Vegas Golden Knights will have the 15th overall pick (from reports that they have a deal in place with the New York Islanders) and the 24th overall selection (stemming from a side arrangement with the Columbus Blue Jackets). There could be more updates to this order in the coming hours and days.

With three picks in the first round, we've got Vegas taking Windsor centre and Memorial Cup champion Gabe Vilardi sixth overall. He's a big centre with offensive skill and can to be a difficult player to defend against. At No. 15, they will continue to add down the middle with Owen Sound's Nick Suzuki, who is skilled with high hockey sense and the ability to contribute in all situations at a highly consistent rate. At 24 we have the Knights taking Russian winger Klim Kostin. He's a big, powerful winger who attacks the net well.

At No. 5, the Vancouver Canucks stick with Portland Winterhawk Cody Glass, a centre whose development is reminiscent of Mark Scheifele at the same stage. There’s no change from our last mock draft for the Winnipeg Jets, who should still take defenceman Juuso Valimaki with the 13th overall pick.

With the 16th selection, the Calgary Flames take a 'Swiss Army knife' type of player in Lias Andersson, who can play at all three forward positions. The Toronto Maple Leafs are next at 17 and should select forward Kristian Vesalainen. He's a strong, good-skating winger who can add offence and create space and opportunities.

Kailer Yamamoto went 25th overall to Montreal in our last mock, but he moves up a few spots this time and goes 22nd to the Edmonton Oilers. The Spokane winger is a diminutive, highly skilled forward who's elusive and makes things happen offensively.

With Mikhail Sergachev dealt to Tampa Bay for Jonathan Drouin, the Canadiens will need blueline depth. We've got them selecting Nic Hague of the Mississauga Steelheads with the 25th pick. At 6-foot-6 and 215 pounds, he's big and rangy but handles the puck well and can contribute offensively with a strong shot.

The Ottawa Senators have the 28th pick and we have them taking the lone goaltender of Round 1 with Jake Oettinger. He has all the attributes of a modern NHL goalie – size, patience and requisite skill.

Check out the full 31-team mock draft below, with links to our video analysis of each pick.

He has 2 D taken in the top 4.  If this actually happens, the Canucks will have their pick of the remaining centermen in the draft.

Also with the uncertainty of this draft, Vegas could be the ultimate winner with 3 first round picks.  They could select a player at 15 who is equally as good as a player that we select at 5.

I predict the Draft will go down like this.

1 Nico

2 Nolan (prototypical PHI player)

3 Heiskanen Best overall fit for Dallas Low risk most ready LSD which they need.

4 Glass (Colorado needs a 2 way center to build around for the future.)

That leaves us our pick of Vilardi, Makar, Mittelstadt, Pettersson any of whom I would be thrilled with however I'm hoping for Makar. Possibly the best skater in the draft with the highest skill ceiling in the draft RHD PPQB basically ticks all the boxes for our team needs. A center would be great but I would say the benifit of a 1.2 punch of Juolevi Makar Pairing on D  heavily outweighs the benefit of Horvat+ Vilardi/Mittelstadt/Pettersson at fwd. I'm not sure there is a guy you build around in that fwd grouping. We have seen that if your Offense starts with your defense teams can be successful but if your team is built around your fwds especially if they are young whithout the support from the d the road to winning is far more rocky(EDM, COL, CAPS).  Horvat could be our #1c if Juolevi Makar tilt the ice for him.

If Dallas/Colorado does take Makar my pick would be Pettersson who aside from being IMO the most skilled of the players left will also be AHL eligible where he can continue to  develop his chem with Dahlen who I believe will make a great impact soon.

We're almost certainly taking Glass at 5 barring him going sooner IMO. If he's gone, things get interesting...

I believe Petterson has already said he's going to the shl next year

Meh, I've no issues with Glass or Vilardi so long as we ensure they get 2-3 years development in the CHL and full season in Utica.

What does bug me is seeing Cal Foote going to Tampa or any other team.  Have been on Cal Footes proverbial jock all year as a canucks pick.

So hoping we can obtain another pick in the top 15 or better

Jimbo should just take what CDC wants. Not what he thinks.

It appears he's already sewered our highest picks we've had in decades... #6 overall with Jake and #5 overall with Olli

Passed on Ehlers, Nylander for Jake... guess the pressure of being a new GM and taking the home town kid was too much

Not to mention missing the obvious choice in Tkachuk... Aside from the fact that both Sergachev and Chycrun seem like they'll be better than Olli.

W.e I hope I'm wrong and he's made the right choices but so far it looks terrible.

Wouldn't sour me on taking him. Has he signed a contract to do so? I would think that the team picking him would have some sway in the outcome of that decision but no matter where he plays after the draft I think he would be my choice from a team need standpoint though the BPA maybe Vilardi/Glass.

So, if Benning makes a trade with Nill, sending Tanev and our #5 to DAL for their #3 and #29, who does Benning take at #3? This would secure his choice of Vilardi or Glass, but we may also get real lucky ( I know, I know), and perhaps Patrick falls to #3. I doubt it, but you never know. Does he then take a D with the #29? Not even sure who that would be.
