I've watched him play, he is a 6'5 power-play specialist, who's mantra is 'i can walk through defensemen to get to the net and muscle in a garbage goal or two' when he is not on the PP. That tactic is pretty much what Virtanen used to do in junios (try to muscle his way to the goal through middle of the ice) and that tactic doesnt work in the NHL. Yeah because no one scores in the NHL by going to the net hard, especially if you are 6'6'' and have good hands in tight... I think he will be a very effective NHLer, if we were picking in the 7-10 spot I would definitely take a chance on him.
Popular Post Ossi Vaananen
Just a gongshow after the first 2 picks. I personally like Mittelstadt at 3, but it seems it doesn't matter if you pick 3rd or 10th you're getting a good player. Gotta land in the top 2, these guys are on a different level.

But the Canucks may start him out there if he doesn't get sent to the AHL. Perhaps slot him in with Sutter to learn the position and at some point in the season, they can alternate spots? Or we can do that with Granlund as well. If the new coach doesn't have Sutter in a matchup/Dzone line to help shelter the kids (and twins), he's doing it wrong. Don't waste offensive players on his line. 2 minutes ago, Ossi Vaananen said: Just a gongshow after the first 2 picks. I'd probably take a flyer on Ron Swanson. But I have my doubts about him being a team player.

-Vintage Canuck-
Would the Canucks consider dropping down to maybe 8-10 position if they don't get a top 2 draft pick? As mentioned, if you can't get Patrick/Hischer, most of the players that go after are pretty interchangeable of which position they go.

Having chance at Vilardi or middelstadt would be just about as good.

It depends on other teams this draft could have a lot of movement up/down of gms are antsy they are going to lose their guy or it could be one with very little movement because teams could be able to easily wait for their highly ranked player to drop to them with the huge difference in rankings. If we pick 4/5 I would be fine with trading down a few spots if it came with extra picks.

Dave "The Hammer" Schultz2
I really hope we can get 1st or 2nd ...getting patrick would be amazing ....and i agree on a few people were they belive hes a franchise player, i agree aswell ....with the canucks finishing at 69 pts we really do need luck on the roll , and hope we get it, if not i really think management should trade up to 1st or 2nd ...we do have some extra defensemen that could be used as bait for possibility of getting in the top 2 picks

I ran the draft simulator 100 times and canucks got top 3 36 times. That was the second most of all the teams but still 64 percent of the time canucks fell out of the top 3. Just to give everyone an idea of the odds. If canucks don't get top 2 or 3 it doesn't mean that the league is "screwing" us. That's just how the odds are for everyone. On a brighter note: of the 100 times I ran it Vancouver got number 1 the most. So who knows

I've been calling it a rock-paper-scissors chance as to where we land (Top 3, 4th or 5th). It would be nice to have luck on our side for once though.
