i also don't understand the under use of Pedan. think this is his last year of being waived eligibility. most likely done with the Canucks.

That was last year actually.

Would you have played him ahead of Tryamkin and possibly lose the latter back to Russia? That's the only spot he was realistically going to take.

They were determined to have an offensive/PP D in the lineup regardless so he wasn't going to get in over Larsen and certainly not now over Stetcher.

Who are "they" that want Willie to put Rodin into the lineup?  That's got to be JB and TL.  Sounds like a BIG disconnect between our coach and management.  How much longer before there is a blow up?

After 10 minutes on the ice, #Canucks Rodin just grabbed his sticks and headed down the tunnel. Practice over?

So did he leave because he was hurt or PO'ed????

Having read through much of the discussion on CDC, and no doubt the call in shows, the media etc. pretty sure that is the "they" that he's referring to.  I doubt there is that much direction coming from management regarding line up input.

All in all, those are pretty good justifications from the coach. It wasn't like the team was playing bad, as they were pressing hard for that tying goal in the 2nd and 3rd period. On the other hand, if we were down by 3-4 goals and needed an offensive spark, I'm sure Rodin would have gotten at least a few shifts.

I'm hoping he doesn't bolt as that would be another loss to this organization. As long as he continues to be patient, I'm sure he'll slot in quite soon.

Willie reads CDC, and listens to the news reports?  No, his pronoun "they" refers to his management.  There is something going on, we just don't know yet.

No need for WD to justify anything.  Rodin should already know that when a team is playing well - like winning 6 in a row - they're not going to be making many changes to the line-up unless someone gets injured among the forward group.

Bad timing for Rodin right now - he gets relatively healthy just as the team gets on a hot streak.

For those wondering if he's going to quit on the team and leave......think about it - if he did that would we really want him on the team anyway?

And now right from Rodin

http://canucksarmy.com/2017/1/9/q-a-with-anton-rodin-on-not-getting-a-shift-in-calgary-on-saturday-night

Vancouver Canucks forward Anton Rodin met the media at Rogers Arena Monday morning for the first time since sitting on the bench through all 60 minutes of the team’s 3-1 loss in Calgary on Saturday. Willie Desjardins said it was a coach’s decision to have Rodin dress as a 13th forward and be available in case of an injury during the game. Here is a transcription of Rodin’s media availability in which he addresses the situation, the health of his knee and his decision to sign with the Canucks.

Q: How hard was it to just sit on the bench and not get a shift on Saturday night?

AR: It’s always tough to be on the side and not playing. But I’m ready whenever he wants me to play.

Q: Was it complicated by the fact that Willie Desjardins mentioned you hurt your knee a little bit in the Friday night game?

AR: Yeah, a little bit. I fell on it, and it didn’t feel great. But if he wanted me to play I think I would have been able to go.

Q: Have you second-guessed your decision about coming here with the way it’s gone or hasn’t gone for you?

AR: No. No, I haven’t. As I’ve said before, this has been my dream since I was a kid and it was a pretty easy decision to come over here.

Q: Did Willie give you any indication prior to the game Saturday – and with your knee and with 13 forwards – that sitting for the entire game and not seeing the ice was a possibility?

AR: Not really. I was taking warm-up and preparing myself to play if the opportunity to play came up. That game, it didn’t. But I was ready and I’ll be ready in the future, too.

Q: Do you need a regular shift as opposed to being a specialty player that drops in for a power play to get yourself back to 100%?

AR: I don’t know. You want to be on the ice as much as possible. But it’s also up to you to earn that ice time.

Q: Willie told us he expects you to be a top-9 forward in this group moving forward. What do you feel you have to accomplish when you get that opportunity to solidify a regular spot on this roster?

AR: If I’m going to play top nine, I have to produce. If I’m not doing that, it’s hard to be in the top nine. So I have to play my best hockey.

Q: What about the status of your knee? The status of your health. What is it?

AR: It’s been good. I banged it up a bit – two games ago, the first game against Calgary – but other than that it’s good.

Q: Speed-wise, conditioning-wise, are you 80%? 90? 100?

AR: I don’t know. It’s tough to say. I haven’t played too many games, so it’s hard to know where it’s really at. But I feel good.

Q: Who were the guys who reached out to you after Saturday’s game and what was their message?

AR: There were a lot of guys. I talked a lot to Markstrom. He’s a friend of mine. We obviously talk a lot. The twins. Alex (Edler) as well. It’s great to have those guys here.

Q: Did you realize after a certain point that you probably weren’t going to play?

AR: Yeah. I was pretty much on the same page, too. If I hadn’t played in the first period, it’s pretty tough to jump in in the second and third.

Q: Willie said he felt that after the first period it’s tougher for your knee to get going.

AR: It’s tough for anyone to jump in midway through a game, but I guess for me it’s a bit tougher.

How does Babcock do it with even more prospects dressed?

its called having confidence in making the decision to play them..

no matter what is games outcome, or players potential is, there is always something to build upon and carry into next game.

This gives the Coach a repoire with the player,. and not having players call that player on the Coaches behalf.

WD is asking the player to be patient,. When really it's the Coach who needs to be.

Valuable playing time for prospects and call ups has been lost last season and is continuing into this one.

Wd is counting on injuries to happen before new players get to show.

Rodin is a pro. < period

needs to be treated that way.

In one of the recent Canucks-Flames games , there was a play where Rodin skated behind the net and made a quick pivot. Immediately I noticed an intense grimace on his face like he tweaked his knee, and he has a very expressive face. John and John didn't pick up on it which I found surprising because they are usually very good at noticing the little details. I kept a special eye on him and he seemed to be in pain. A little later on John and John commented on how they thought the trainer was going to tend to Tyramkin but instead went and talked to Rodin on the bench.

My point being that I suspect Rodins lack of ice time is not a "lul" in coaching by W.D.,  but rather Anton being on light duty as to not re-aggravate his knee injury again.

It's WD ....he is not able to see talent right in front of him.  Right from before his rookie year I was saying how Horvat was going to be great and a scorer...even up to the beginning of this year WD was quoted as saying "we don't want Bo concentrating on scoring"  (meaning he is a defensive forward).

Willie is wonky and I am not sure how management can't see this either.

Rodin has shown glimpses of elite talent in passing and in defensive plays/ takeaway's, etc.,....all with virtually no playing time.

Play him, take out Chaput or Magma or Skille....just play him before it's to late!!!!

He re-tweaked his knee.

He's also not a fit on the 4th line to replace Chaput or Skille even if healthy. Which he's not.

Wow! In 17 minutes of TOI you sure took in a lot. I suggest you take your 'elite talent' scouting report down to Rogers Arena, knock on the door, see if Jimmy & Willie can see the same thing. I am sure they would appreciate the help.
