Yeah, I read the rules it says teams got either 1-3 ping pong balls dependent on recent playoff appearances and 1st overall picks.  Malkin was a #2 and I doubt they saw a lot of playoff time cause they did stink.  

 

Thats still a lot lot of luck considering Geno at Center would have probably improved their team.

They had a 6.2% chance, the same as:

Buffalo Sabres, Columbus Blue Jackets, New York Rangers, Pittsburgh Penguins

 

10 teams had a 4.2% chance.

Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, Atlanta Thrashers, Calgary Flames, Carolina Hurricanes, Chicago Blackhawks, Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings, Minnesota Wild, Nashville Predators, Phoenix Coyotes

 

And everyone else had a 2.1% chance.

 

Canucks had almost double those odds at winning the 1st overall last year..
