We were only 1 number away from 1st OA but instead drop to 5

It is probably has to do with how we treated the NHL from the very beginning.  I do not know how original owner treated the NHL in the first place.  Remember, the NHL has a very long grudge against us for various reasons.   It is better for this franchise to burn itself down and start a new franchise under different name or the name Canucks is a curse itself.

Hopefully this will stop the tankards.  We could fight for a playoff spot and then fall off and finish in mediocre 20th place overall ish and wind up with 2nd pick like Philly.

Always strive to win, there will be lots of movement with the expansion draft and what not, jb will make moves.

Not worried.

After last year's debacle, you know that it could potentially happen and it did. It sucks always being a lottery number away from winning the lotto. We really could've used the lotto win. Picking a player like Glass should help the team and Green should be able to get the most out of him if he makes the team. But we could honestly pick anyone. This draft is wide open and you can't go wrong with whoever you pick. Button compares him to Schiefele and I can live having another player like Bo. Works hard, good play maker, makes good decisions with the puck and also attacks with it when having possession of it. Good pick choice if Benning does go with a choice like him

And you are one chromosome away from being a gorilla. If my brother had been born a girl he would be my sister and if the tilt on the earths axis were 4 more degrees, we could not support life on earth.  The truth is, the Canucks did not drop down to 5th place. They did not drop down at all. They were never in second place.

At least one reconciliation is that very good teams can be built without number one picks.

One of the best teams ever was the one that featured the west coast express, they could have made a push for a cup if they had a decent goalie. Naslund was 16th overall, Bertuzzi was 23rd overall and Morrison, the number one centre was 39th overall. That team did feature one number 1 overall pick with Jovo but this Canucks team is shaping up to have some very good players and could be built much the same way as the great teams of the early 2000's

You forgot that team also had the number 2 and 3 overall pick in the Sedins which were really the number 1 and 2 picks since Stephan was a huge bust.

The 2011 Boston Bruins had no number pick overall in their line-up when they won the cup. In fact they only had 5 players that they drafted playing for them. The majority of their players were acquired thru trades.

What about Seguin at number 2?? Difference was that their GM Peter Chiarelli knows how to trade and look what he has done with the Oilers. Benning just sucks at trading but he is good in drafts so our only saving grace is that he keeps drafting good players and signing them right away. His trades and signings so far haven't been great.

I didn't forget but didn't mention them because at that time they were not the top players playing mostly on the third line.

Seguin was playing 5 minutes a game in the playoffs that year, the point was referring more to the core group of that team I believe.

The number 11 strikes again. In the entry lottery in 1970 (on June 11) we thought we won when the wheel hit #2 (II), but it was actually Buffalo's #11. In 2017 we had 11 but it only serves to deny us the pick.

#11 Messier.

2011 ofc when we shouldve won

Yes Seguin was a number 2 pick overall but the point is you don't necessarily need a number one pick overall in your lineup to win a cup. That Bruins team also had acquired Nathan Horton via trade who was a second overall pick by Florida. Similar to us acquiring a former third overall pick from Florida - Gudbranson. You don't have to draft top 3 nor top 2. You can trade for them. The point is, there is more than one way to build a cup winning team than having a few top 3 picks you have drafted in your line-up.

As for Benning's trading, I feel he has done well with Baertschi, Gudbranson, Goldobin, Dahlin and Granlund. Combined with his superior drafting, we are well on our way in our rebuild.
