The somewhat curious zone starts might explain somewhat the slower than expected starts for Horvat, Pettersson and Boeser.

Pettersson didn't shoot more to start last season - he was just converting at a higher pace.  He had a 26% shooting percentage through December.  From January onwards it dropped to a more reasonable 13% - which is still above median.  Boeser was at 12.4%.

up to end of December - 36 games played.  73 shots and a shooting percentage of 26%

January onwards - 35 games played.  71 shots and a shooting percentage of 12.7%

I know he doesnt shoot that much. Partly because of his style of play, he doesn’t shoot unless he thinks he has a good chance of scoring. Nevertheless needs to shoot more. Especially on our PP. Petey’s probably the best sniper on the team and his one-timers are deadly. Yet it seems there’s no plan or effort to set him up for them. Weird I think...

My one coaching beef is last night against STL they would put Petey's line with Stecher/Benn and had Beagle's line with Hughes/Tanev for the first two periods.  It was clearly not working, Petey needs puck moving D and twice I noticed Benn(love the guy) couldn't get it to EP, and Beagle's line was -2.  I would swap those pairings around.

I read on here, can’t remember where, that Quinn Hughes starts 70% in his own zone.  I think Green must like Hughes’ ability to get the puck out.  Would Green want Hughes to start in the O-Zone more, like with Petey?

Since we're talking about his Petey in his car...

Note this is a friend of a friend story but it seems true:  A guy went with his kid to see a Canuck practice at 8 rinks and apparently parked in the Nucks only lot.  Anyways security was really good about it and as he's getting ready to leave a bunch of Canucks came out and no hesitation Petey poses with his kid for a pic and joked he rather have this guy's minivan than his Audi lol.

Thought y'all might enjoy that.

Now EP is going to get a call from his sponsor.... lol

there's 4 lines of fwds and three lines of D, they don't deploy them as 5 man units very often

Russians and Habs of the 70’s used to.  Double shift your top players, especially D, to get your top five on the ice together, especially when starting in the O-Zone.  Why does Hughes have 70% D-zone starts?  He’s almost always going to be out with Beagle or Sutter.  Or does that D-Zone start % just show how great Quinn is as an overall player?  Seriously how many rookie D ever get that high of D zone starts, especially one with elite offensive skills?

2017 - Geez, that Boeser kid, great hair, and man can he shoot the puck, what a sniper!

2018 - Holy moly, this Swedish Pettersson kid is like from another planet, he's taking the league by storm!

2019 - Woo hoo! The Canucks have never had a player like Hughes, possibly one of the best skaters in the league, that kid can fly, and so smart!

2020 - Wow, another sensational Swede (Hoglander), how does Benning do it? Adding him to the Pettersson line makes them extra deadly. Also, welcome Juolevi and welcome back Tryamkin!

2021 - To Russia with love, thanks for Tryamkin, and now Podkolzin. This Pod kid is unstoppable, just a force of nature with a chip on his shoulder. Dangerous player.

then Cup

From an article on Elias during end of the preseason. He mentions that Its awesome that people like him and it motivates him more. WHen asked how he will handle more attention from the oposition he says his dad has prepared him from his younger years since he told Elias that they hook and grab him since they cant keep up with him. To turn that into an advantage that they are focusing on him resulting in powerplays. He also says everyone in the team stands up for eachother and actually mentions Ferland as being one of the more powerful players when asked who would be a suitable "bodyguard" on the roster.....

TylerMotte had a tough game, missed his check on both those goals against his line

I'd chalk that up to game 2 rust after a lay off.

I wouldn't worry about it but call a spade a spade, those goals were both on Motte.

probably not because Miller is last in O zone starts and first in scoring.

also Bo has whiffed on a few easy ones

It seems that for whatever reason a bunch of the stat sights are reversing the zone start figures FWIW.

i was wondering why there is only  O-zone andd D- zone starts

what happens when the face off is at center or the Neutrl zone?

Disagree....they were muffins and Demko was not sharp in the first two periods. He rocked it in the shoot out however.

Pettersson's creativity is being destroyed by Green's coaching.

Compared to last year... nothing like as creative... and I have to believe it is coaching.

He is stronger, skates better, he should be doing better.

But the fact he is being squeezed in a system which doesn't seem to allow him any creativity is stifling him.

But what we saw last year was all with Green too. Do you think Green's coaching style has changed in the past year?

What I’m seeing,.  And it’s coming to the surface in the Rangers game this afternoon,. Is another level or evolution in EP40’S game.

He is going shoulder to shoulder and being just as physical with opposing D men.. he is standing his ground and creating more time and space because he is becoming harder to move.

Green knows what he’s doing,.  He is dealing with a very young highly talented player who is playing under the weight and strength that his 6’2-6’3 frame will mature into.

By Christmas,.  Much will balance out again.

Petey certainly does not look like the same guy as last year. There is the dreaded sophomore slump but who knows what is really going on.

Last year he would make some crazy highlight reel move almost every game. Seen almost none of that this year.

Still early in the season though. And he is still putting up points - 8 points in 8 games.

He won me $44 bucks today lol.  I picked him to get at least 2 points and for the Canucks to win.

Thanks Petey!!  :towel:
