Future 1st line?

Going up against Vilardi and Toffoli, oh boy.

Going up against McDavid and Draisailt. Seeya.

Going up against Tkachuk and Gaudreau and Monahan. Yikes.

Hopefully we can sign a big strong veteran UFA to play with them, or Virtanen pans out. I'd say Horvat is our first liner right now. Much prefer him matching up against top lines than Pettersson. Pettersson against most teams 2nd pairing defencemen will be a fantastic mis-match though.

Baertschi - Horvat - Boeser

Dahlen - Pettersson - Virtanen

Granlund - Sutter - Goldobin

It may work. Gaudette is the dark horse there but you never know how these things will pan out. Time to pray that Virtanen works out.

These threads are pointless.  Prospects almost never turn out.  Despite what you hear around here every day.  For instance, there was a time not too long ago when our top center prospect was Ilya Krikunov, our top LW prospect was Fedor Fedorov and our top RW prospect was Marc-Andre Bernier.  How would you feel today about someone who suggested that Fedorov/Krikunov/Bernier was going to be our dominant first line for years to come?

In 2006, our top center prospect was Matt Butcher!  The year before, it was Patrick White!

5 years ago, our top future line was Jensen / [Schroeder or Gaunce] / Kassian

The majority of our top prospects today - won't even be NHL'ers (for any more than a taste).  Projecting them to be our superstars is ridiculous.

Yeah I think we need more grit whether Virtanen works out or not. We need a player that can do everything good, not great, but good, one of those glue players that the championship teams have. Also, I think either Baertschi or Goldobin will not be on the team when Pettersson makes the team, they bring the similar type of skill and I think we have spot for just one of them. Baertschi has an upperhand at this point because of his chemistry with Horvat so far.  And we probably need at least one more veteran on the line up aside from Sutter but that will be addressed in the next few seasons via trade or UFA signing. Heck, Eriksson will still be around by the time Pettersson makes the team so there's our veteran :)

But it looks like the team is going to be very well balanced, everyone brings a different set of skillset.

nothing like a recipe for distaster now as in the twins best years, no toughness really unless jb goes cap happy and gets tougher on the back end but as it is we'd be lunch for the elite teams that have both size and skill balanced well.

Us?  uhhh no and today didn't help any especially losing sbisa and train

.. more like soft as melted butter sigh :(

On the bright side games don't start for 3 months so the roster you envision now may not be what we see in October.

I like taking petterson at 5 cause we've been taking the safe pick for years and needed to start going for the high talent/high risk players to get those playmakers

we passed on nylander and ehlers for the same reasons why Petterson was a shock at 5.

We couldnt have traded down cause no one didn't wanna trade up so drop it

Baertschi - Horvat - Virtanen

Dahlen - Petterson - Boesser

Goldobin - Gaunce - Granlund

Joulevi - Tanev

Tryamkin - Stetcher

Hutton-Gudbranson

3 years down the road when Tryamkin hopefully comes back.  Need a big 4th line that can bruise and forecheck hard, and we should be good.
