Provost
How we didn’t pick up Pickard is beyond me. Has Benning joined tank nation? I get giving up on the team after Christmas when you are at the bottom of the league. Moving out assets then, etc... but for the sale of the guys here you should still be trying to make the team better. Even if it is only incrementally, it is free in this case. oldnews
Calvin Pickard was a backup AHL goaltender last year - with an AHL tweener sv% of .918. Ermagerd - what will this team do without Calvin Pickard? Nothing about Pickard - since his 20 game 2015/16 audition in Colorado - indicates an NHL goaltender. Sparks was significantly better at .936. McIlhenney is also a better goaltender. Much ado about nothing.
xereau
Was hoping to see Benning go after McElhinney. Oh well.
oldnews
Gustav Olofsson is worth considering imo - the question being whether he's better than Ben Hutton. He's less 'proven' than Hutton, but he's also not on a regression trajectory like the Hutton of last year. A year younger. Easily as good 'underlying' numbers. As productive in harder minutes. Hasn't shown the upside of the rookie Hutton, but neither has Hutton since - and Olofsson is arguably a more solid all-around defenseman, although perhaps not a strong as Hutton at this point. I doubt the Canucks would bother with this perceived margin, given Hutton's contract and the LHD in the system, but in the shorter term, it's debatable whether Hutton is as good as Olofsson in the present. oldnews
Not surprised to see Carolina take McIlhenney. Darling is reportedly injured - and had a horrible season last year (.888 sv%). Mrazek was brought in to compete for his spot (and himself had a .891sv% last year). And this is a team purporting to be in 'win-now' mode. McIlhenney could conceivably wind up their starter. rekker
Great morning in BC. 20 cm of snow in Alberta and the Leafs goaltending depth gone in one fell swoop.

Hutton is the second best LHD on this team. MDZ and Pouliot are waiver wire fodder.

Hutton was the 4th LHD on this team last year - behind both Pouliot and MDZ - and has done nothing in preseason to change that. Rookie Hutton may have been the second best LHD at this point, real life Hutton of the present is an AHL tweener.
