10 minutes in and you're already politicizing this?

We live in a very privileged country and area dont pretend like you know

Oh, OK. We just won't bother discussing it then... Don't pretend like I know what?

It's political by it's very nature, genius. And it very much is on the far right. "Don't politicise it" is just a cop-out for those who don't want to acknowledge it.

Anti-Islam is not equal to anti muslims. This is the problem. The western right thinks 'faults with Islam = responsibility shifted to muslims = every muslim is guilty' and western left thinks 'criticizing an ideology = auto-victimizing its followers = banned'. So long as this nonsensical impasse exists between the right and the left, nothing will change.

People have asked me all the time how the heck can i participate in anti-islamic articles and contribute money to help muslims in conflict areas and the question used to baffle me, before i realized that critical thinking and differentiating between ideology and followers of ideology is way beyond the capability of 90% of human beings apparently.

I'm not saying that Islam should be immune to criticism. Like many religions it has an extremely antiquated view of the way the world should work.

My problem is with (as you correctly point out) the bolded and it's because of this line of thinking that this attack and others on innocent Muslims have taken place. It's no different from Islamic extremists targeting innocent western civilians.

The problem is, the right and the left both feeding each other, along with the current western leftist paradigm of making the majority the functional minority by making them irrelevant and somehow guilty for being born. The effects of both side feeding each other cannot be understated.

Your comment is very simplistic and sadly part of the problem from our media, that perpetuates stereotypes (I do note you mention 'like many religions' so I get your point). But, Islam is not so simple. Many people like to say its 'backwards' etc. And to a degree, given the 3rd world where many muslims live this is partly true. It's odd that we don't call Christianity backwards, even though the way its practiced in Africa for instance could be seen as such right? Even to an extent here and in the USA (aka homosexuality, abortion, etc, not to go too far astray but you get my point I hope). One might ask why is there a difference in how one vs the other is portrayed by our media?

I have many muslim friends, they are very progressive, pluralistic, egalitarian in their views and certainly not 'antiquated'. Perhaps meet some muslims and test your theories. .

The media easily labels 1 billion people as backwards. Yet they don't label every christian as a child molester? That is the equivalent here, and that is a big part of the problem, perpetuating stereotypes.

Just as the media labels a white male right wing mass shooter in the usa is a 'psychologically challenged man' /lone wolf (and as it should, because it should not throw blame on every white man as being a psycho), it does the opposite and brands all muslims as 'terrorists'' when a muslim nut job does the same. The media is as much to blame for islamophobia as anyone else. Don't get me started on the white privilege aspect of what I just wrote, I'll get suspended again for stating facts.

Because they are different religions, thats why ?!?

Duh. Read the books relevant to both religions.

Muslims do not define Islam any more than a random socialist defines communism. Duh. Again, classic fallacy of the leftists being exposed right here. Critiquing Islam and calling it antiquated is not equivalent of calling muslims, aka PEOPLE as antiquated.

Again, the RELIGION, aka the IDEOLOGY is being discussed as backwards here. Not the people.

No, it does not label all muslims as terrorist. Its a red herring argument.

Islamophobia is a red herring term and obfuscation. Islam, a religion founded by a warlord, that officially allows lying to the infidel, does deserve phobia. That is irrelevant to how we are and how we should view/treat muslims.

Bahahahahahaha.

Facts my left testicle. What you call facts, i call opinion. And you are so brainwashed by your opinions that when a colored person like me tries to correct you on your misconceptions re: colored people, you ended up calling me a white person.

That's not the point I was making. I also know many Muslims personally, who are also progressive and well integrated into western society. I know that Muslims aren't responsible for every antiquated teaching of Islam, but that's not the way that things are portrayed by the far right. And the media are giving them a platform to promote these views, which was my point to begin with.

I could say the same thing about Catholicism. Doesn't mean that I, as a Catholic, am responsible for the dated teachings of the Catholic Church.

I saw a deleted video. The shooter had a POV camera of the entire attack, and it was horrible to watch. Prayers to the families affected.

Why would you watch that??? Of course it would be horrible...

Personally, beyond informing myself of the general details, I don't give these loser psychos any additional attention.

Can't people spend their lives building things, and making life better?

Instead of taking lives, and spreading misery.

It’s incredible how many times we ask ourselves these questions - some questions less extreme of course , every day.

smh.

In BC there is a new Mental Health Literacy curriculum for the grade 9 level, it's awesome.  One of the truths it tries to put out there is that someone with a mental illness is not more likely to commit an act of violence but is more likely to be a victim of one.

I don't know how many times I've made this exact statement, yet every time a mass shooting occurs, the "mental illness" card gets played.

This guy wasn't mentally ill. He was filled with hate. It's not the same thing.

  • Shooter was a white nationalist
  • Shooter espoused far right views
  • Shooter credited Candace Owens a far right media personality as an inspiration
  • Shooter wanted to cleanse his homeland
  • Shooter spoke about the Muslim invasion and how he intended to stop it
  • Shooter admired and credited other attackers with very political and nationalistic goals in his manifesto and with written messages on his weapons
  • Shooter made reference to forcibly sterilizing women in his manifesto to end the issue once and for all
  • Shooter likened children to future suicide bombers and therefore targets

That is NOT political.  That was what this person wrote, spoke of and believed.  There was no mental illness just a sick human being who intended to cause as much harm as possible.  That is a person who hates over one and a half billion people based on what they believe and how they look.  This is the result of xenophobia, the result of perpetuating hatred and accepting the far fringes of extremism as "fine people" in society.  The result of not speaking out about extremism and most importantly.  This is the result of not educating people and allowing people the belief that freedom of speech also means the freedom to openly speak about the murdering of children because of what they are and how they look without consequence.

This is not political.  This is only a symptom of a much larger sickness in the world that has existed for essentially ever.

Canada's yellow vests social media pages show you this is closer to home than you might like

Not sure why this is blamed on "right-wing".... as if bigotry and hatred is specifically on a political spectrum.

I mean technically speaking this could easily be treated as left-wing attack since maybe him attacking a specific religion is part of the communist doctrine.

This attack is just pure evil and/or insanity.  I hate extremism in all forms, whether it's based on religion, politics or whatever.

Times like this, I sort of really wish there's some god or divine being that can literally make such perpetrator burn in hell for all eternity.

Because it is. You can read all about it in his little diatribe. Communism doesn't care if you're Muslim, Christian, atheist, if you're a threat you can be dealt with accordingly. Happened all the time. The only god is the head of state such as Stalin.

Anyway, since it happens around here too - liberals best remember next time they want to throw around terms like "bigot" or "racist" because someone is questioning the federal government's immigration and refugee policy in a respectful, meaningful manner: there are people who will actually kill you over these things. Reserve your heated rhetoric for people who actually deserve it.

Perhaps read the news, or simply some of what has been posted in this thread, for your answer on why this is being blamed on the right wing.

That was my first thought as well. Why would anyone want to watch people bring murdered in that manner while playing right into the shooters’ hand too?

I get what you're saying, but in this case he's definitely not part of the left. He was naming Candace Owens as an inspiration, and Owens is solidly on the right.

You are a bigot though. Just because there’s much worse out there doesn’t mean you aren’t one too.
