[Report] Eriksson “NOT” likely to be moved on

Recommended Posts

Benning is active in free agency - Gardiner, Myers, another top-6 Fs.  Typically signings are announced in the first few days of free agency - coveted UFAs are often signed immediately.

CapFriendly shows some 15.5M in cap space with far too many contracts.  Obviously some contracts will get moved but price might go up / return might go down if come 1 July the Canucks end up too close to the cap.

Marleau 82GP 16G 21A 37pts

Eriksson 81GP 11G 18A 29pts

Loui is still very good on the PK and is very sound defensively, so to praise Marleau as “somewhat effective” and sandbagging Loui as useless makes zero sense when only 8pts separates them. Also the guy with 8 more points played on an offensively stacked team that finished 3rd in their division. Loui played on an injury plagued team in mostly a shutdown role.

Pat is a wily old vet who still has wheels.

He is good defensively and on the PK as well, PLUS he brings a lot of leadership, also yeah, 8 points more.

Again not disputing any of that just stating they're not THAT far apart... Never once said Loui is better...

Once he gets paid his big bonus on July 1st, he will be easier to be dealt with. I’m sure Eriksson will be gone the first week of July. A cap floor team would love to have him and if not we can retain a couple million in a future trade.

The bigger point though is the contract. These guys arent being traded because of there usefulness on the ice. Both are bottom 6 guys at this point.

And unfortunately for us the term remaining with Loui is going to be tough.

This Marleau trade didnt make moving Loui any easier. I think its gunna be hard to move unless we take a contract back, sure as hell dont want to give up a 1st or top prospect to do it.

What will likely happen with Eriksson?

A) he keeps playing for us as a bonafide PKer making $6M

B) traded to Edmonton for Lucic +

C) sent on waivers, chilling in Utica making $6M

D) he refuses to play for us ever again coz the guy got pride and it ain't right to rob us a penny more!!!

With the recapture penalty we should be trying to dump Loui somewhere especially if we want to sign Myers.

I'm sure that's top of mind for Jimbo. But TO set a ridiculous price for dumping players and GMs are probably coming back with ridiculous asks.

Best shot to move him now imo is waivers, maybe Ottawa will take him for free.
