exactly.  But Aiden is a much better prospect.  He's bigger and a naturally gifted goal scorer.  He can wait a couple months after his season finishes next year (2023) and go to any team he wants.  He can pick where he feels he gets the best chance to play.  We didn't offer him a chance this year (we offered Abbotsord) so he went back to school.  He's a smart kid and knows what to say.  IMHAO we have lost this prospect and should trade his rights at this draft.

Have you not seen? Vancouver's the perfect opportunity. He's got lots of opportunities with the Canucks, who are, by the way, looking to change the look of their roster heading into the off-season. there will be spots that he can earn, but only if he earns them. He won't be gifted a spot. Work hard and earn your keep, or be sent down to Abby.

Also, his skating is suspect, so unless that changes a ton, i'm not sure there will be many suitors lining up for him.

If he ends up as a Mike Hoffman level powerplay specialist it will be a win.

Anyone thinking he’s the answer to our top 6 is in for a rude awakening though.

Yeah, he's probably not top 6 material, even if he has an elite shot. But who knows.

What a pleasant surprise that would be if he turned out that he can play a top six role. Would be huge

I think he will be a good bottom 6 player.  He may need a year in Abby but that is not a negative.  I got to see a few games this year and I think his skating is better than some are saying.  He has a good shot off the wing though. B)

What McDonoughs' calling card is scoring goals. I doubt he would be a checking bottom 6 player. He makes it as a scorer or he fails IMO

And this fact is why we really needed to get him signed after this last season.  Now he can go to free agency and pick the team he feels offers the best chance for him to play a top six scoring role.  Will that chance be with us?  Not likely.

Can any one name a Canuck pick that went to college, and did not sign with the Canucks, after leaving school?

And then how many Canuck picks that did sign with the Canucks?

To tell you the truth that simply makes a point of the NCAA players we draft are not in huge demand with other teams.  For instance Fox was in big demand and most teams wanted him, McDonough ....I dont know

Not at all, many hockey players that where good goal scorers had to change their focus to playing a different role. He has the size, but may not have the skating to be a good checking forward at the NHL level. Have to wait and see. The good thing is that natural scoring ability will not be lost if his only road to the NHL is bottom line checking forward,

Lots of them never signed with anyone including the Canucks. And then there was McNally...

If Aiden MacDounagh needs to improve his skating to get to an NHL level, then he should sign.

Bo is one guy that shows Vancouver has focused on this in player development.  Brock is never a fast guy, but his skating was a massive issue earlier.

JT Miller went from a third liner to a All star, his bigest improvement was his foot work, his feet never stop moving.

Podz has big skating issues that really were technical and look at how he moved at the end of the season.

along with wizards at skating like Garland, Peterson, OEL and the best example is Hughes.

If skating is your weakness, then this is a place that has helped others overcome it.

What financial and opportunity (to make the big club) is there for Aiden to sign with us in May 2023 when he can wait until August 2023 and be a UFA?

I think we screwed up getting this guy signed this year.  We offered him AHL time, when all his peers were getting NHL time and burning a year off their ELCs.

He still has to sign an ELC so there's no gain financially to signing with any other team. As for opportunity, I'm sure he'll be given a chance to win a spot in camp.

If he decides to ditch us because he doesn't have  patience to develop, he can go sign with buffalo and he can ruin his career there. No Loss to us.

Alf, if a college player is going to bolt, they will bolt.

it’s that simple.

character is a flaw or a bonus, and your assuming the he will straight line transfer to an NHL top 9.

then why is his skating a knock..

with giant success with college drafted players in this organization, why would Aiden not sign?  Cause Umburger was mad the Kessler had a bigger package and sulked…

the Abbey road, it’s a great pathway to an NHL contract, just ask Gads.
