Really loved this guy at the draft and still do now.  Seems a bit steep but when he's got quality players behind him he'll break that 50-60 point plateau no doubt.  Also has a young blonde dollar store Bertuzzi look about him

Quote of the day.

More seriously.  We got caught out by the flat cap.  Many criticized Bennings contracts.  I liked the Eriksson deal when it was signed.

We aren't the only team, see Tampa, who may have a short term downswing.  Its just what it is.

We probably will just absorb our losses. Tanev, Markstrom, etc., are already gone.

Eriksson’s contract is the one that I think we can argue the least about.  Virtually everyone thought it was OK or good at the time it was signed.  It is unfair to criticize it with hindsight.

It is the Beagle, Roussel, and Ferland contracts that most fans and hockey people thought were a bad idea right from the start.  Tom much term and dollars for bottom of the roster players when there are always cheap veterans available for less.  Schaller was a good signing as an example, he performed the same “protecting the kids” role but didn’t cost us signing better players.

It is OK to criticize not being able to fix those mistakes as well.  It is his job.  Some GMs were able to move bad money... heck Gudbranson got traded.  We should have bit the bullet and pressured Eriksson last season by putting him in the minors then.

^^ Damage is already done? ^^

But hey, the Calgary Canucks has a funny ring to it. Their feeder team Abbotsford, just expanded a lil.

The Heat, Calgary's farm team has not played in Abby since 2014. They have been in Stockton Cali, since 2015

I saw people complain about the money for Beagle. And some columnists called him out. And and term.  Liked Beagle but called it a handcuffing deal.

Geez, the # of people that wanted to trade for Ferland when he was a rental in Carolina?  It was a deafening roar on CDC.  Ferland in Calgary with a single swipe had eliminated Vancouver according to a minority few. And when he signed, and it was not $6 mill x 4? Hallelujah... He was exactly what was needed! That we did so, after acquiring Miller? Some complained, but catcalls to get Ferlie were substantial.

Roussel a neutral, needed, if overpaid acquisition.

That was my pulse on CDC views (not my own).

My other pulse is many people who like to complain are great at hindsight.

So basically Benning is perfect, the above 3 are beautiful signings that are worth every penny and as you worded it, inevitable. And we should all shutup and accept it like sheeps. Don't analyse, dont poke at flaws, just shutup and take our money. :bigblush:

Look?

I am also not one who calls Benning a messiah.  There are people here who praised Benning for acquiring Toffoli. And are now hanging him for losing Toff.

He was a rental.  We were never going to keep him!

Forget it was the cost of a play off run we almost went on.

Every good team has players on bad contracts. Bad teams have more of them.

We just seem to have more fans that hang their sh!t on the team. Aren't enjoying that we are improving. Too hung up on a ''they knew better'' outlook.

It stinks out the joint.

Forget the fact that the other GMs (you know the guys who know what it takes to be a GM) voted Benning the 6th best in the league at the moment, The signings at the time were still justified. Myself, I wasn’t a big fan of the Roussel or Ferland pick ups. But Beagle was and still is valuable to the team.

Beagle and Sutter still have their place on this team. And with losing Tanev on the PK they will be even more important. Are they overpaid? Sure. Do they have a place on our roster? Also yes.

Not at all.    It’s the nit picking that’s extremely annoying.    Sheep’s should at least check the rest of the league out and reflect enough to understand we are in a great position given context.   Not like JB made it hard for young players we drafted to earn a spot had he?   And it’s already apparent aside from maybe Milford, he’s drafted better then any previous GM.    Not one JB supporter is claiming he’s perfect.   At least from what I’ve read on this site and that doesn’t include LE which has low hanging fruit.   We could certainly do a lot worse.   IMO he’s firmly in the top five of GMs that have rebuilt teams over the past 15 years or so, better then Holland, better then Shanny and Lou, and I doubt Yzerman can do better. who at least is walking into a half rebuild at the moment.

My bro and I have already wondered if Sutter will re-sign at a lesser pay to stay and keep Beagles job.   Both those guys earned most of their paycheque’s during the off-season.   Wouldn’t mind if either of them stuck around as a veteran role after their current contracts are over.

I wouldn’t be surprised. Unless we pick up another Center in trade or UFA, Beagle and/or Sutter have a place on our roster. Gaudette may replace one (probably will), but that’s still one spot remaining.

Does Michaelis take that spot? Unlikely. Costmar, Karlsson, etc are more then likely a few years away and not sure if any are defensive specialists that will work the PK.

Things can and probably will change, but as it stands right now Beagle will probably have a chance to stick around.

Beagle was great for us this playoff, he’s one of a few guys that’s consistently making it hard for players after the whistle and creates some havoc infront of the other teams net too.   And of course an ace  in the dot.
