Popular Post IBatch Posted November 12, 2020 Popular Post Share Posted November 12, 2020 (edited) NHL.com recently added an article (sorry I’d add the link but haven’t figured that out yet ha ha) - that talked about how Green and Benning have started talks on a contract extension. Seems like that he will get one, but also the pandemic could possibly be delaying things (speculating that maybe Benning also wants to see how well he does with another different looking line-up). Green had a lot of good things to say about adding Schmidt, and how he doesn’t want to coach anywhere else and win a cup with Vancouver. Personally I feel he’s a rising star in the coaching ranks, and one of the most detailed oriented and intelligent guys in their ranks and would love to see him get at least another two years. He was tracking zone entries and exits himself before that was even a thing... Not sure I set the polls up properly - if I didn’t will edit appropriately. I know both Benning and Green are common topic - but given the lack of hockey talk recently thought it would be fun to see where the CDC (avid fans) are at with him, and feel about an extension. IBatch Posted November 12, 2020 Author Share Posted November 12, 2020 (edited) Best part about the article was comparing the impact adding Miller had to what Schmidt offers...saying that added layer of energy and leadership helped a lot, especially over a season ... and how he doesn’t want any “energy suckers” in the locker room...also included Holtby in that as well - added layer of leadership and experience. My only beef with Green isn’t really directly with him. The power play is dreadful most of the time. I know there are other coaches who wrote this stuff up, but doesn’t the head coach pull all the strings at the end of the day? All that firepower on the ice and we do the drop pass into a turnover and short handed chance night after night. You need more than one play!!!! Bissurnette Posted November 12, 2020 Share Posted November 12, 2020 Hell yes to an extension. He's been doing a tremendous job with the young guys, and the team is very motivated to play for him. He has an up tempo style which suits the market and is exciting for the fans to watch (even if I'd personally prefer a slightly more structured style). He's still a fairly young coach in the NHL even tho he's pushing 50. And considering what the leagues high water mark is right now and what that team can ice - it’s a massive improvement over the Sedin one we suffered through until BB moved it from 23 to 9th his rookie year. Last season we were 4th best in the league with a 24.1 percentage. The guys ahead of us and some of those behind us iced a ridiculously awesome five man unit. I should have re-phrased it a little 1-2 and 3-4..that said that’s exactly what I feel he deserves. You can always fire your coach - but it would show a vote of confidence in Travis Green, he’d definitely feel that management had his back and could just focus on the job at hand with his future secured for awhile at least. I do think JB will give him an extension - but not sure if he will play it safe and see how well the team does to start whatever type of season we end up with... 2 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

We don't know when covid will be "over". And it's not like his contract affects our cap, so we aren't concerned about the cap freeze situation.
