I was a young lad that lived about 1000 miles away, my grandparents were visiting with us.

I remember it was raining for a few days and we were told not to go out.

Also we were advised not to eat fresh produce, I was upset because strawberries were starting to get in season.

Air currents spread it to Poland, Sweden and Finland first.

Eventually it covered most of the Europe, scary times indeed!
Firefighters that were putting the fire out, pilots flying directly over the reactor and workers that drained pool underneath the reactor were all on a suicide mission.

Funny thing is, chernobyl has a growing wildlife population now. Was fascinated by seeing abandoned buildings overgrown with trees, and then videos of wolf and deer roaming around.

No idea how they are living, but as they say....life will find a way i guess.

Coronavirus: Prince Charles tests positive but 'remains in good health'

The Prince of Wales has tested positive for coronavirus, Clarence House has announced.

Prince Charles, 71, is displaying mild symptoms "but otherwise remains in good health", a spokesman said, adding that the Duchess of Cornwall, 72, has been tested but does not have the virus.

Charles and Camilla are now self-isolating at Balmoral.

Buckingham Palace said the Queen last saw her son, the heir to the throne, on 12 March, but was "in good health".

The palace added that the Duke of Edinburgh was not present at that meeting, and that the Queen was now "following all the appropriate advice with regard to her welfare".

A Clarence House statement read: "In accordance with government and medical advice, the prince and the duchess are now self-isolating at home in Scotland.

"The tests were carried out by the NHS in Aberdeenshire, where they met the criteria required for testing.

"It is not possible to ascertain from whom the prince caught the virus owing to the high number of engagements he carried out in his public role during recent weeks."

MPs pass emergency aid bill after overnight compromise

Hours of tense negotiations resulted in the emergency parliamentary sitting lasting long past its expected end time. Early Wednesday morning, a modified version of the bill received approval from all sides.

The modifications include removing the Liberals' ability to raise taxes unilaterally and shortening the period in which the government can take emergency spending measures without Parliament's approval from two years to six months.

During those six months, the new spending authority is limited to specific categories including income support for Canadians, the purchase of medical supplies, public health-related programs, covering expenses incurred by the government and helping provinces and territories pay for emergency response needs. Provinces and territories are also receiving an extra $500 million in federal funding.

So to the youth and those that think they're invincible... The virus itself might not kill you, but complications from what the virus does to your body can.  Healthy 17 year old dies...

https://globalnews.ca/news/6729298/teenage-boy-coronavirus-death-investigation/

Further to that, looks like there's a 12 year old on a ventilator fighting for her life in Atlanta due to the virus.  The child was perfectly healthy with no underlying conditions either.

So smarten up people! You're not invincible! Stay home!

Ha ha - yeah the North has it ways good and bad. I knew John Cooper as a kid.  (current Tampa coach and PG kid).  Was a wonderful guy and a hell of a lacrosse player.  He played with Tony Twist another PG kid.

I too am a former PGer....but a bit older....

I played a bit with Don Nachbaur, although he was a couple years older. I also once got a summer gig working at a hockey school run by Darcy Rota.

If you played any hockey, you may have seen the banners for the Midget Kings team that went to the National Wrigley Tournament in Montreal. I was one of the guys on that banner.

The real question is, what restrictions will he loosen?  I guess he forgot that he didn't order any restrictions, our governors were the ones who ordered the restrictions.  So they will be the ones who loosen the restrictions.

The guy is such a putz.

He said yesterday on Faux News that he hoped the churches would be "packed" for Easter.....

I'm hoping that parishioners will ignore his ravings, but as we all know, a certain percentage of them take his word as gospel....they might just be up for a Darwin Award, even though many of them don't believe in him...

The amount of healthcare workers getting sick is unsustainable

Wed 25 Mar 2020 14:56:57 GMT

Spain reports that 6,500 healthcare workers have the virus

Spain reports that 6,500 healthcare workers have the virus

There are two theories about coronavirus that are particularly troubling.

1) That a higher viral load means a more-severe illness
2) That something about having caught and fought off many colds/flu makes the virus more severe. This would help to explain why kids don't get as sick.

These are both theories but they're from Ian Mackay, an Australian virologist.

If they're true, it's devastating news for healthcare workers. They are going to repeatedly be exposed to the virus and have been exposed to more illness than anyone from working in healthcare settings.

Spain reports today that 6500 healthcare workers are ill -- 13.6% of all cases. Many of the cases of young, healthy people dying are doctors and nurses. Teachers might also be vulnerable if this is the case.

Even if those theories are false, the amount of healthcare workers getting sick is too high. The system can't sustain it on a human-resources level but also on a systemic basis.

"Even if we do everything else right, if we don't prioritize protecting health workers, many people will die because the health worker who could have saved their lives is sick," WHO leader Tedros.
Chinese healthcare workers in Wuhan tried to walk off the job at various points. They were told their licenses would be permanently voided if they didn't show up to work. There were rumors of even greater threats.

People cheering from their balconies for healthcare workers is a wonderful gesture but do we really expect all these people to keep working without proper safety equipment? Nurses are some of the world's greatest people but if 20% decide their lives and families are more important than caring for people who decided not to stay home during a quarantine, then the whole system begins to collapse.

Exactly.  That's why when a group of doctors and/or nurses are calling for a lockdown, the government needs to listen!

Good news!!

My wife co-worker who has Covid-19 (on the road to recovery) most likely did not infect the office since no other staff exhibit symptoms.

Bad news!!!

Not enough testing kits (limited supply).  BC testing only healthcare workers and acute cases.  So likely higher infection rates than what is reported.  But self isolation seems to be working at limiting hospital visits (so hospital staff can focus on more serious acute cases of Covid-19).

that means they will have developed anti bodies

will you be draining them of their blood soon ?

in order to isolate the anti bodies in their plasma

so you can inject them to get a boost against the virus?

:towel:

we may all be becoming vampire like soon

:P
