I suppose the tough working conditions aren't exactly getting people to line up for work in the hospital. Adjustments probably need to be made to have a lot more part time people so you can ramp on demand as needed. Or perhaps seasonal ramp might be a compromise.

Well now for a tiny bit of good news on the Covid front stating that the Covid peak may have been reached and is rapidly declining in South Africa where this latest variant supposedly started.  "After hitting a high of nearly 27,000 new cases nationwide on Thursday, the numbers dropped to about 15,424 on Tuesday. In Gauteng province -- South Africa's most populous with 16 million people, including the largest city, Johannesburg, and the capital, Pretoria -- the decrease started earlier and has continued."

Still think it would be a good idea, for a crown corporation to start manufacturing, hospital beds, blankets, instruments, generic drugs, gauze, bandages, etc. Medical Equipment.

Do it at a cost plus 5%. So it creates jobs, supplies our hospitals and clinics. And part of the profits can go into the health care system. 

I also think it's time to bring back Orderlies back into hospitals. To assist the nurses, provide fall back security, and be an entry level job while they learn to be a paramedic, doctor or specialist.

Israel is still trying to catch up from giving their people the 1st and 2nd vaccine just two weeks a part.  That's what happens when you're at the head of the pack sometimes.

Novavax says COVID vaccine triggers immune response to Omicron variant

(Reuters) -Novavax Inc's COVID-19 vaccine is effective in generating an immune response against the Omicron variant, and an additional booster dose produces further immune resistance to the new variant, according to early data published on Wednesday.

 

Novavax said the data was taken from its ongoing studies of its vaccine's effectiveness in adolescents and as a booster.

 

Novavax's two-dose, protein-based vaccine was authorized for use this week by European Union regulators and the World Health Organization. [L1N2T50VX] It has previously been approved by countries including Indonesia and the Philippines but not the United States.

 

Novavax is working on developing an Omicron-specific vaccine and said Wednesday it expects to begin manufacturing doses of the variant-specific shot in January.

 

The drugmaker will start shipping vaccines to the EU's 27 member states in January as part of its deal to supply up to 200 million doses.

 

The company will also begin shipments in early 2022 to COVAX, a vaccine distribution mechanism overseen by WHO that allocates COVID-19 shots to poorer countries. Novavax and its partner, Serum Institute of India, have agreed to send COVAX more than 1.1 billion doses of Novavax's vaccine.

I'd feel better about this news if it was from a regulatory body or an independent medical lab like a university and not the company itself. Novavax is so late to market with it's vaccine the skeptic in me thinks it's kind of convenient they can make this claim when others cannot seem to.

that would be a pretty dangerous game to play, that kind of thing would end that company if they were not generating the results for real.

Great idea on paper but anything the gov't gets involved in is 5 x the price - let alone you'd end up with Unionized Dog FU@^ers working at 1/4 speed,  Best thing is to leave it in the hands of private industry where there can be competition and efficiency or they go out of business  - unlike unionized gov't run institutions where efficiency and effectiveness are discouraged and frowned upon.

What results? There are no numbers in the PR, no trial results. Just a bunch of hopeful sounding "fluff". Novavax says the data is taken from ongoing studies. Well that's great can we see the data or is it a big secret?

 

The purpose of this PR (and you can see dozens like this every week from pharmaceutical companies) is to juice the stock price. Hey look, NVAX is up 7% in after hours trading.

I'm not sure about pubs and bars, I know nightclubs are out.  Personally, I don't think it's a good idea to go anywhere that has +++peeps and is indoors.

Last I heard, you are good if you serve food as well as booze, but no more than 6 people per table and they have to maintain a certain distance between tables.

but like I said, thats a dangerous game. If they do this just to pump the stock price and it turns out there's no data, they're toast.
