[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks

it's ok just sign Miller to whatever the hell he wants like some of the louder guys on here are saying it's not big deal. Canucks are used to it by now. we love having players 30+ signed till their late 30s to rot away. just ask LE OEL Luongo 2 of them one of the worse contracts in the salary cap era and OEL prolly will be one too as i don't see him playing anywhere close to what his contract is worth. Soon we can add Miller to the list  with his 8-9mil contract for 8 years. coz he'll only be 30 when he put pens to paper.. just like you know who..

don't worry guys we ain't competing next year but after we re-sign miller we'll have a 31 or 32 year old Miller leading us into the playoffs for couple years before he no longer is a top line player being paid top line dollar for 3/4 of his remaining contract.

Kane missing from the team still had arguably one fo the best bottom 6 groups in the league for years.  Had arguably one of the best top 4's in the league for years.  Had arguably one of the best 2 way centres for years.  Had Hossa the end all be all.

If we had a vintage (hawks team)

Seabrook

Bickell

Kane

Byfuglien

Sharp

Toews

Hossa

Keith

If we had a vintage (pens team)

Crosby

Malkin

Letang

Fleury

Kessel

Kunitz

Gonchar

If we had a (blues team)

O'Reilly

Tarasenko

Pietrelangelo

Parayko

Bouwmeester

We could remove any one of them and STILL be contending.  But look at that record without Miller.  It is damning.  But look at the Hawks and Pens line ups.  4+ HoF players on them.  That Blues back end had a top 4 that is effectively better than all but Hughes and some of the best middle 6 players of the season that year.

We currently have Miller and nobody else is elevating their game in comparison judging by the numbers indicated without Miller in the lineup.  No Miller no Demko.  This team is drafting top 7.  That is not a competitive team regardless of retaining Miller or not.  There are too many other holes and issues that need addressing for this team to even say it's a contender.

You made a solid point last night about the team relying so much on one player.........that's a death sentence in the playoffs, for sire

Ladd and Campbell were also great for that hawks team.

They were stacked.

How is it that we trade Miller and these guys are all gonna step up in a big way, but then you can argue that we take Miller away and we suck?

Because a tweener NHLer, a young 19 or 20 year old prospect, and a 1st round pick are gonna make us a contender in a couple years?  OK then.

So you want all our players be 20 years old and younger? who will lead the group? Hoglander? Yes lets trade or not sign players like Miller, Tanev, Toffoli etc. and keep creating holes in the lineup, thats how we win the cup. I guess Tampa won with 20 year old stamkos and Kucherov. Dont forget 20 year old Chara and 20 year old ovechkin when they won their first cup.

He wants us to keep trading our best players, because thats how teams win cups. No such thing as experience at all. People say silly things when they dont know a lick about managing a peewee team let alone an NHL team.

I would trade JT in a heartbeat for a 20 year old Ovechkin,Stamkos, Kucherov or Chara. You wouldn't?

Actually, icing a well-balance roster wins you Cups. Tampa didn’t always rely on Kucherov, Stamkos, or Hedman every single game during the playoffs. When guys like Cirelli, Gourde, Killorn, and Palat, stepped up on a different night.

If we’re able to get 2-3 solid young pieces for Miller. I think the majority of GMs would make that deal. Given where they are at in their team’s phase.

A pkg from NY or Col including Lafrenier or Byram would have my attention right quick.

Lafreniere, Schneider, and Kravtsov would be a nice return.

If we are looking to find a Miller type player, then Lafrenier has that kind of potential.  It's always a gamble though with young guys if they will get to that level.  Miller is one of the best players in the league the last couple years.  Big, strong, mean, skilled, ppg, center or wing, PP, PK, great on and off pucks, and a leader.  Maybe we should keep him?

No argument from me Alf, it's a gamble.   But so is waiting it out to see if Miller even wants to re-sign and it's a further gamble if he could play up to any extension without being a negative value contract before all is said and done.   No guarantees any which way.

So what current 20 year old would you want back for JT?

There is a bunch of 20 year olds that I would trade miller for... unfortunately those teams wouldn't trade them for Miller. I was replying to defcon who was making 20 year old Ovechkin,Stamkos, Kucherov or Chara sound like a bad thing.
