I haven't minded Chiasson at all.  I know it's been trendy to trash him, but he's been solid for us most of the year.

Pretty big too, at least for our team.

And a lot of value for his price tag.

Plus we have to dance with the team we have now.

To paraphrase BB, 'we're still in it until we're not; it's a steep hill, we have to work hard if we want to get into the playoffs'.

These are the problems. We have only Bo, Miller, and Lammi as centres. Technically even Miller is more of a winger than a centre. So we need 3-4 centres in the system, with one at least ready to play now. Poor player management has led to a team with no cap space. And worse, few prospects.

We lack size, physicality, and speed.

That's why bigger teams walk all over us. Benning thought skill would be the way to go. But you need balance to compete and do damage, and to get into the playoffs.

We could sign Nick Paul and Nicholas Roy in the off season, which would give us center depth, size and physicality, and also important depth for if Horvat or Miller don't resign....so something like:

Garland to NJD for Severson

Boeser to ANA for 1st round pick

Dickinson + 1st round pick to ARI for Crouse

Myers to DAL for 4th round pick

Offer sheet Roy for 2m (3rd round pick compensation)

Sign UFAs Deslauriers 1.6m, Paul 3m, Crouse 4m, E Kane 5m, Manson 5m

Still gives us $3.3m in cap space with this roster:

Pearson Miller Kane

Crouse Petey Podz

Paul Horvat Roy

Hogs Lammikko Deslauriers

(Highmore)

OEL Severson

Hughes Manson

Dermott Schenn

(Rathbone Poolman)

Demko

(Martin)

After this loss I think we kissed our play off runs good bye!!! Just on my observation in the past 2 weeks of crucial games that we should of won...our guys definitely need to play a lot more aggressive to win. Players like Boeser that plays no touch hockey and Myers playing like he's 5ft 3inches and not sure why Petan is out there playing for the playoff run. Definitely seeing a lot of issues and a lot of gaps to fix for next season. Will need a few big trades to hopefully fill in those big gaps. We need guys that are willing to play hard and tough every night and do what it takes to win and not be selfish about it.

Yep seems like Boudreau is taking the same approach as Green.

The fact that Chiasson and Petan are playing more minutes than your budding young powerforward is a joke.

Like why are they afraid of letting him make mistakes? You can’t have double standards for vets and rookies. That doesn’t create a culture of accountability.

Yup, would be nice to showcase more of the future and give them a chance to make the roster, for next year.  Not sure, if it is the front office or the coach - that really determines, who plays on game day ?

It was such a huge contrast at the beginning of the season when we just got OEL and Garland.  Those two guys were crosschecking the opposition, pushing them around and not willing to concede an inch.  Then you had the rest of our team that was so docile and happy just to be on the ice.

Sedins were so good that they didn't need to be a pain in the ass to play against, but at some point that rubbed off too much and guys like Horvat lost their edge.

Myers got slapped with a bunch of minor penalties whenever he tried to be more aggressive and given that we had a historically bad PK, I can see why he toned it down.

We need not only Kyle Burroughs to be back, we also need to acquire a tough forward for the bottom of our lineup.  Now that we've figured out that we can play Petey and Quinn on the PK, that will open up a roster spot for a tough guy that can skate.

Great posts guys. I've been saying this for months now. This team is lacking maturity in it's core and the leadership required to play responsibly in all 3 zones and in different situations. The core will mature but right now it is seriously lacking on this team.

That's 2 games Petterson blew now. He also gave up a short handed breakaway on the PP that lead to only Detroit goal in a 1-0 game. It's Gawd awful play and someone needs to be able to get that through to him. Whether it's the Captains, teammates, or coaches. Right now it's unacceptable decision making and he's not listening to anyone except his own ego. I still love Petey but it's something he absolutely has to fix. Same with Hughes and Miller who were both playing D and somehow got roasted by a guy 4 feet in front of them. No team is going anywhere with those attitudes and performances.

I never see a NHL player fall down so much. Falls down trying to hook people. Falls down when lightly bumped. Last night he even fell down when a breakout pass hit him in the skate! He has oodles of offseason work to do to start to rectify that.

I never said we need to trade him today. In a couple of years if Rathbone emerges as a top 4 Dman then we can explore an OEL trade with retention. $3.6 million for 3 years isn’t the end of the world if we have no other cap issues. Every team is carrying dead cap.

3.6 mil for 3 years is a big deal.. every team is carrying dead cap? which cup winners in the recent years are carrying dead cap? 3.6mil is literally a 2nd line winger or 3rd line center or a low end top 4 defenseman right there.. are the lightning blues or capital carrying dead caps on their runs? are vegas carrying dead caps on their runs?

why are we in cap trouble right now? oh coz we have almost 4mil in dead cap for how many years now? and as soon as we get rid of our dead cap you wanna add 3.6mil again for 3 years?

A players experience with a particular crew or referee, will ofcourse have a lasting effect on a player.  Although, some players or coaches don't care and will try to mitigate, any issue as they come - starts from the coach and a good GM, will build a team that matches, the coach.   Imo, it is mostly mental and we had seen how far, a gentleman's type of hockey will take a team - especially, in the playoffs were the rules are very different.  Preferably, Allvin builds a roster (with a matching coach) that is skilled, mentally tough and bites back [real] hard - despite, the size of the players.  Let's see what the roster looks like next fall.

big names have to go. Starting with boeser. Dude is invisible on most nights, below average skater, horrible defensively.

Tyler myers, not a bad d-man but not worth 6m. Schenn can replace him permanently.

Dickinson and poolman to clear some cap space.

Need to find a RW to play with petey who can skate and score. Some one like nylander or Tage thompson.

Second biggest need Right handed centre who win faceoffs and can kill penalties. Someone like jason spezzan dude might be old but can still skate faster than boeser.

Need a top 4 Right handed dman who can play with hughes, and be a shutdown D man. Macvoy or Parayko are high on wishlist but we know thats not going to happen.

We are not in cap trouble right now because of our dead cap.  We are in cap trouble because of Loui, Beagle and Roussel.  Benning flipped that $12 million to get OEL and Garland.  That $12 million is what is screwing us the most, not the Luongo recapture penalty...

so the 3.5mil+ of dead cap is no big deal really? because you have bad contracts who cares about dead caps?? what?

well then let's buy out OEL as he'll only cost 4.6mil for 3 years and then 2mil for 5 more years.. but since it's dead caps it's no big deal it's better than bad contracts..

Myers is brutal for his contract and spot.

Fantastic #5  dman at less money.

Scott Hartnell...was a rough and tumble top six/middle six sort ... cool red beard to boot with some size...he fell down so often a fan started keeping track and would go to the games with a sign - "Hartnell Down" ... some funny take on Blackhawk Down.   He fell down a lot too.  Hundreds of times a year apparently.

Lets face it Canuck Fans ...it is going to take a few years to undo the mess that JB left behind....especially given the Cap space and the crap contracts

Nah.

Good core.

Biggest mistake by JB was not turfing Green.

We have a good front office now. Tweaks in the off season. Cup within 3 years.

You missed Demko when mentioning 3 of our best 4 players.
