With pervious management fittering away a lot of picks and lots of high ranked prospects not working out for us, we couldn't afford to take a huge risk this draft, which Miro certainly was with the health concerns and the political situation in RU right now. Another year with nothing to show for round 1+2 could be the final nail in this cores coffin.  J.L was the lowest risk highest  upside pick the org could realistically have made at 15. So i'm good with it - think he's got a lot of tools to be a great player for this core in a few years.

Watching his highlights he has no skating issues. The reports that have his skating as good are right.

Really excited for this pick. The more I read about him and see his highlight reel tape, he has a real knack for scoring goals and using his fluid skating to beat defenders one on one.

I would love to see Lekkerimaki 17, 5'10 , 175 lbs , get picked in WHL import draft and play for Giants this year...I imagine management team will pick the right journey for him..  2 -- 3 years away..

I am okay with pick.. 

I was hoping Mintyukov 10th O/A or Korchinski 7th O/A,  both were gone at 15th..

I was initially concerned about his size, but at only... what... 17.. he has years to add weight. I was worried about Petey at first for the same reasons, and it hasn't been too much of an issue for him.

Sounds like he has some skills, but his performances so far seem mixed. I also think that speed is essential in today's NHL, so unless he pulls a Horvat, it may be of some concern. Plus the steely look he has in the picture... I just don't trust those eyes. It's like Edward Norton in "Fear".

He went from a below average skater to an average skater with extra attention to his development.

 

Smaller players need to be faster in the NHL and getting to be an average skater isn’t going to get him there.

 

I am going back to a lot of JR comments.  He said the team lacked quickness and he likes a big, fast team.  If that is the team identity you want, draft those kinds of players.

 

I guess after 8 years of watching a GM say one thing and then flounder around making random moves that didn’t adhere to any particular vision…. I would really like to see a clear path from what they say and what they do.

 

 

Sarcasm my friend.   The comparison was only that BoHo addressed a weakness with hard work and coaching,  if in fact Lekker needs work we shouldn't write him off before he even has a chance,  no?

How did he get those breakaways the kid does not have good skating. The scouts that watched this kid and had issues with his skating most have been drunk, or they think every player on the ice has skating issues.

His skating is fine watch his highlights, there is no signs of any issues with his skating.

Wasn’t able to watch the draft this year  (busy with family stuff) but really happy with this pick. Didn’t expect Lekkerimaki to fall to us. I was convinced he’d go top-10.

 

Sure, a couple of the players I found intriguing were still on the board, but if you’d told me yesterday that we’d be getting Lekkerimaki, I’d be like that woman in the “start the car” IKEA commercial.

 

Consistently rated by scouts as either the very best shot/sniper in the draft, or minimum top-2/top-3, and he’s not nearly as one dimensional as some have said. Hockey IQ, passing, puck skills, etc are all look pretty good, his skating isn’t nearly the issue that some have claimed IMO, and his flaws are he’s merely a little undersized/light (also really young and time and room to grow), and like nearly every offensively gifted kid, he could stand to work on his defence.

 

At #15, if you can get one truly elite talent (his shot), in a pretty darn good overall skill package, you take the money and run.
 

Word is that he was the pretty much the “dare to dream” option the Canucks hoped might fall to them. I’d imagine Allvin and the scouting team are over the moon.

 

And looking around other boards and socials, I’m seeing a lot of “steal of the draft” and “home run” comments from people I consider pretty knowledgeable on prospects.
