This may be the most insensitive thing ever said but I think the worst tragedy of this war on Ukraine is that we didn't get to see Bedard-Michkov go head to head at World Juniors. Michkov might have put up 20+ points of his own.

Just getting caught up on this thread now but REALLY? There are innocent children dying, women getting raped, people getting executed, probably over 200K+ dead between the two nations and the worst tragedy is that we didn't get to see two 18 year olds play hockey against each other? Give your head a shake man... maybe you will gain a little perspective.

Well, I know nothing about Simashev. Haven't seen too much Reinbacher either. The others I've seen all quite a bit.

Apologies because I know you're a ASP fan, but from what I have seen and heard, basically everything people want Sandin-Pellikka to be, Gulyayev actually is.

Theres some scouts that I’ve heard really rave about Simashev and he could be reslly

high on some draft boards. But I’ve never seen him ply a full game even so I have no idea.

Don’t be sorry at all I’ve just seen him play full games with peers and with his club so I have a lot more to go off for him.

have you watched full games for Guly?

i haven’t. But what I’ve read and heard about him is that the skating and puck skills look elite. And when the puck is on his stick he’s a completely different player from when he doesn’t have the puck on his stick.

and that his defensive awareness, reads/plays without the puck has some scouts worried about how is game will project to the NHL.

and as for ASP I see a lot of similarities to what I read about Guly except I know he’s really working on his play without the puck, his puck retrieval and his stick work to close passing lanes and winning one on one battles with men in the SHL, especially in practice.

i also think he’s showing he can be an elite puck mover / passer and I’m not confident Guly is as good a passer as ASP. From what you’ve seen do you think he is?

I have seen full games, yes. Going back to YOGs, Hlinkas, and there's a couple shift-by-shifts up on youtube. I actually think Gulyayev is one of the better defenders of the top ranked defensemen. Of course, how well that will translate to higher levels at his size is another question. But the thing that sets him apart is his escapability - among the best I've seen in recent drafts, up there with guys like Drysdale or Mateychuk. His skating has every aspect you could want for a zone-exit specialist like that, he has the edges to be highly deceptive with his changes of direction, and the powerful acceleration to be deceptive with changes of speed. Granted, he mostly uses his skating, as well as quick, short passes on the breakout; not much for the long stretch passes. But his passing in the offensive zone looks really good.

My first spin... who we picking? Who should we be picking?

I think that this is actually the ideal scenario for Michkov to slide to the Canucks

Interesting if this does happen, if it does work out that Columbus lands #4 I give solid odds they pass on Michkov and grab Benson or Smith.

I look back at the bad Russian picks the Blue Jackets had early in their history like 2003 with Zherdev at #4 and 2008 with Filatov at #6 and think they are not ready for this and are all too happy to avoid the Russian factor.

Hawks see a lot of the US U18 team and potentially grab Will Smith at 5.

However if I am out to lunch on this and my scenario doesn't play out then they should just take the best center available, i.e. Benson or Smith at 6.

Silly mistake to associate draft history/tendencies with the organization instead of the real people actually making decisions. Jarmo Kekkalainen is one of the only European GMs in the NHL, and they're one of the only teams with a European as their head scout as well in Ville Siren. Daniil Tarasov and Kirill Marchenko are two of their top prospects, they went way off the board to pick Yegor Chinhakov first round in 2020, and drafted two Russians last year despite the current situation. I can promise you Zherdev and Filatov are the absolute furthest things from their minds.

It would be closer to dobson then Theodore. His gap control and how he controls his stick in the defensive zone is superb, but he has worts like you or I said. But it worries the hell out of me when we go for need. Just hoping smith or Benson don't hit if we go this route.

One thing I do like about reinbacher and this is the same with simashev is their composure. They don't get rattled as much like other defensemen if the system breaks down in their own end

Haven't had a chance to look into Reinbacher yet, what are the worts in your mind?

I have a tendency towards smart/reliable defenseman, guys that'll eat minutes, is that what you see here (while not being particularly dynamic)?

If he slides down I'd love to see the Canucks pick up an extra pick or two and grab Bradley and Josh Nadeau

Seeing them playing last year and replicating it with such ease this year is honestly crazy

I see Bradley is 17 and Josh is 19...

I wonder if Josh went undrafted last year?  Bradley seems to be ranked in high second round by some publications.
