0-4 on a roadtrip where Vancouver has scored the first goal in every game and with the last game against the division leading Carolina Hurricanes. Having worked down the street from PNC Arena I can tell you that the Canes home ice is most famous for NC State Football and holding the Carolina State Fair and most Triangle folks have little memory of Rod the bod and the young guns of Staal and Ward winning the cup in 2006. The Canes are lead by new guns now, like Aho, Svechnikov and Necas though they beat the Penguins on Saturday with 2 goals from their defense and a solid effort by Andersen. Second year goaltender Kochetkov is expected to start.

 

The Canucks should be tired off another close loss and lineup changes seems unlikely. Delia was forecast to be in net by Bruce before the Tampa game but things could change.

 

I realized that I've had the wrong year for every one of the 2023 road trip games but it indicates that we're all a bit too depressed to notice. We've got a lot more chances to go higher in the lottery standings.

Change the name.

Vancouver Grizzlies Hockey Club.

Then we can have black. 

Instead of a basketball, a Bear with a hockey stick in it's claws.

At least with a bear, and black, the team has an identity and something that matches the province. 

Canucks might have worked for the old WHL. But the Oakland Seals prove something that worked in the WHL doesn't always work in the NHL. 

We need a new identity, and break with the past.

Interesting… the Hurricanes are first in their division (27-9-7), but they don’t have a single player on their team that has more points than games played. It seems like they don’t heavily rely on a few guys to always produce and get contribution from everyone, playing as a team.

Not Structure. That is just a phrase that has been introduced to distract from Allvin's failure as a GM to do the real work needed which is to try to change the losing culture Benning crafted here.

There have been times when the Canucks have been like that. Most recently when Gillis ran the team and had 4th liners with 10+ goals

 

For months some fans have been looking at January as being a defining month for this group. Who figured the Avalanche would be so bad with so many key injuries, that should have been a loss too or was expected to be.

 

Just false hope.

 

As far as team play, Allvin has made his bed, he pays by points regardless of anything else. This group has had a losing culture for 6 or 7 years now.

 

Everything points to a Carolina victory IMO the only thing they have to worry about is how bad the Canucks have been. That might get them to ease up too much. Most hockey players will not kick a dog when it is down and the Canucks are waaaay down  so they might take a win for granted.

 

Probably the back up.

 

But this game should put to bed all the fake playoff spewing. The players have spoken.
