Some don't as they are willing to give him up for guys that haven't even played in the NHL yet but have potential.  Why trade your greatest defenceman ever who is only 23 and could win the Norris trophy one day for "potential"?  Crazy stuff.

And yes, he has 18 points in his last 13 games and is a plus 12 in those 13 games.  Playing in front of AHL goalies and playing alongside ECHL defencemen.  In comparison, the current Norris trophy winner has 16 points in his last 13 games and is even in those 13 games.  Hughes > Makar right now...

Nuh uh.  Unless you're a 6'4 defenseman that can defend like Lidstrom, hit like Steven's, skate like McDavid, fight like Laraque, shoot like Iafrate, you're definitely trash hence expandable!  Oh, and be less stoic than Horvat too.

Actually the guy we'd be hoping to get for Hughes is 6'1, 190 and is scoring at a .5ppg pace in the AHL as an 18 year old.

Respectfully.

Hughes is playing in a league with Hedman, Power, Dahlin, Fox, Makar, Josi, Heiskanen, Hamilton, McAvoy, Chabot and Seider.

All are amazing defencemen that can score, but all of them.  To a player are arguably better defensive defencemen than Hughes has shown himself to be.

At days end, the Norris will go to the highest scoring defensive defenceman and Hughes is barely top ten in the league by those metrics.

I don't see any team being able to put any package together that would make me ever consider trading Quinn Hughes. #1 defensemen are not easy to find.

I'd say Nemec will likely be as good, likely better, than Hughes is right now when he turns 23.  On top of that, you get a Horvat replacement, a first rounder and a ton of cap space........for one player.  That's based on the deal we've been discussing here.  I can't believe everyone wouldn't that.  One deal solves a lot of long term problems for this franchise.

That would be a rebuild right down to the studs that they would never do. If they did, we might as well also package our 2 firsts and Petey for the 1OA.

So there's no actual smoke here, right? Just a bunch of speculation based on nothing. From a team-building perspective, this isn't a move the Devils need to make anyways.

Ya this is all to generate clicks, highly doubt there has been any official proposals or shopping

Only an idiot would trade Hughes for an unproven Nemec (who isn’t as good a prospect as Juricek). And our current management aren’t idiots.

Petey is a budding top 10 player,

our first will likely be a star player and that Islander one could also be a jackpot. A lot of risk for one player who hasn’t played in the big leagues yet…

Definitely a risk, but when we go on our winning streak to close out the year and the picks are 12th and 16th...

You'd kick yourself if we end up missing out on the next Crosby/Mcdavid on a 3 year ELC during a rebuild.

Use that space to take on contracts and recoup the picks.

It's crazy, and a risk, but could work. It would be MAJOR surgery.

Man you whack Matt.  Hasnt the Coilers taught you anything.  I'd rather Petey + top 6 F + top 4 D over McBonzai anyday

Really... because that's a horrible choice.

Edit : If we don't hit a massive home run on one of those two firsts, it's a slam dunk move to take the hypothetical McDavid trade. Even with a home run, McDavid still wins that deal.

But you’re not mentioning Petey. He is getting better every year and will cement his place in the top 10. Possible top 5 ceiling by the time he hits his prime.
