they could only do this trade because they accumulated cap space when they were without any LTIR players AND also because they had 3.4 million in dead cap space... You can never ice a roster before playoffs with a cap hit more than the upper limit...

 

NYR will have a total cap of about 84.5 million, a roster of 81.7m and 120k in space.... they are effectively done after this trade.

I'm going to enjoy watching NY lose when they do. They have a ridiculous top 6, but I don't see them managing the long haul in the playoffs the way Tampa, Boston, and Toronto will.
