We can’t have OEL in the press box as a continued healthy scratch and a league minimum guy in his spot on the bottom pairing. That’s 8 million allocated to a bottom D spot. Even in the most expensive two years of the cap penalty for the buyout we would only be paying a total of five mil, including the OEL buyout cost, for that role. We can budget on known costs buying out OEL. It’s unknown what will happen if we try to keep him. Can’t risk that unknown. Just buy him out. And dumperoo Garland too.
