This must really suck being a Flames fan right now, not only is Tkachuk owning this playoffs but look at Bennett out there, from Calgary's what...3rd line about 3 years ago to playing out of his socks in the playoffs. Bennett and Reinhart are sort of flying under the radar a bit but they were great little buy-low projects by Florida a few years ago who play quite good two-way gritty hockey. Bennett is a bit dirty at times, doesn't score as much as he probably should, but man has he been a factor these playoffs. Under a PPG but he's been throwing some bombs of hits all over the ice and is built for the playoffs like Tkachuk. A lot of very smart savvy passes as well which have gone unrecognised.

Will every quit crying about not drafting Tkachuk already???

Tkachuk>Juolevi =Huberdone+possibly no EP or QH

OJ>Tkachuk led us to Petey and Hughes

He demanded a trade out of Calgary and the largest reason was due to the implications of COVID. The restrictions of travel and how difficult it made on US players to see family.

We should all be grateful we DIDNT draft Tkachuk.

For now we can all laugh and enjoy the pain and misery Calgary is going through, watching 2 of their top 10 picks make huge impacts in a stanley cup run while they are saddled with Huberdone for another 7 years at 10.5mil

Good points.

I still wouldn't want Tkachuk anyway.

Couldn't look at that mouth guard all game long, or his dumb ass dad taking up two seats but paying for one.

I'd love that to have that Bennett kid though.

You think they are in their window?  Well, that's not going to end well.

Petey and Tkachuk seems to have the same drive and that wins games.

We are in a window now. Just accept a fact when it is there in front of you.

Silovs changes everything, imo.  They can ride Demko, get some playoff experience and then transition to Silovs, then allowing them to move Demko for pieces to push them into contender status.

Silvos is indeed looking good. To have another real deal goalie in the system provides options for sure.

damn imagine our window is now and we didn't even sniff the playoff and we have no prospect/assets to make TDL type moves and still loaded with bad contracts

That may well be the painfull case. But with our core, their ages, it's now. Imho

Florida definitely thought they were in their window. They won the President's Trophy last year and the year before that were the 4th best regular season team in the NHL. They severely underperformed this season during the regular season, but that doesn't mean they don't think they're in their window. They also made the Huberdeau for Tkachuk trade with the idea of extending their window longer and making a bit of a shake-up to hopefully have better post season success.

My point was more that teams don't necessarily know where they are in a possible cup run, till they are in one. I'm sure many in Florida thought at times it just wasn't realistic this year. My original point was more that it's not going to necessarily be a picture perfect award winning painting going into playoffs. Just get the right players, playing right, for the right caoch, a hot goalie and your off. We aren't that far removed from exactly that

Miller is 30 and locked up for 7 years.  We just traded for a soon to be 26-year-old top 4 RHD.  Petey is almost 25 and looking to sign an 8-year extension and wants to win.  Hughes has 4 years left and then is UFA.

Our window may not be exactly this coming season, but at most it is 2 years away.  Silovs isn't going to be leading this team during the beginning or our window.  Demko is our goalie Bob, who were both trained by Ian Clark.  If we are pulling a Florida Panthers it will be with Demko in net, not Silovs.  Silovs is a great young piece who could eventually replace Demko if we decide to move on from him in 3 years.

The start of their window to win is about two years away, I agree.  Then it'll likely be a few years of winning a round or two before they become true contenders.  By that time, MIller will be a shell of who he is now.

Makes me wonder if Virtanen when he was starting to improve for Bennett would have been a shrewd move.

(Not sure how much we would have had to add) Both players seemed earlier on their careers seemed to be struggling with consistency and effort.

Do you have Friday's winning Lotto Max numbers by chance, with that kind of foresight?

You know, well, that's generally how it goes for teams who win.  Obviously there's outliers who make Cinderella runs, but for the most part it's a long process for teams to get to the top.

Just look at Dallas. Their team isn’t better than the Canucks.

How long did they go in the playoffs?
And they didn’t have a Petey or Tkachuk.

So you think we have to try for four more years before we can be a contender?
No wonder some fans thinks a rebuild is the way to go.

Next season we can pull a Dallas.

The next season we’re a true contender.

Not a bruins version that wins a lot during the season but a team that very few can beat in a seven match long serie.

It’s the series that make Petey break the other teams.

The future is now, for better or worse.

Under “Bruce! There it is” we were a winning team. And when Demko came back from injury, we were a winning team. And by “winning”, I don’t mean over .500…we were one of the top teams in the league. In between those 2 streaks we were getting some of the worst goaltending in the league. Make no mistake, when our goaltending is at its average, this is a playoff team.

The other major issue was the 2nd pair. When Hughes was on the ice, the team was pretty much elite. When he wasn’t, we got caved in. Adding Hronek (and a potentially less terrible OEL) should improve that to some degree… possibly to a large degree.

This team is set to compete for the next 4 years. Whether they have the depth to actually succeed in the playoffs is another story. But the key players are locked in (or are about to be), and in 4 years they will be trending the wrong way. And nothing high-end is coming - there isn’t a single prospect in the system with legitimate top-line potential. Too many traded or failed picks along the way. Basically what we have is what we get.

The bright side is, if it’s not working over the next 2-3 years, we have high-end players that should get us nice returns to jump-start another rebuild, rather than starting from absolute scratch like we did under Benning (partially his own doing).

if they maintain the status quo, then yes, it is, and it won't go very far, imo.  If they make a couple of good moves, get a little younger and deeper, then they have a shot at being a legit playoff team and contender in a couple of years.
