HKSR
I think he will get $5M+ being arguably top LHD available in free agency. Feels like a Tyler Myers type year for UFAs though, so I wouldn't pay the premium for him.
Drakrami
More like how much will he get paid? He is not that far from Severson you know.. yet you have him making half as much with half the years... lol.
coryberg
3.5? Dream on. I could see him getting 6 per. No thanks!
Fanuck
The only certainty with this player is that someone WILL overpay him - both term and dollar. We need legit NHL calibre defencemen, but we don't need yet another overpaid/underperforming player on the team with an untradeable contract. Have we not learned this lesson folks? UFA is a risky, risky game...... 1

He plays with grit and edge but plays smart.. Solid #4 on any team and price will be high. -- Most NHL team will be interested in Graves. Devron
Graves is getting minimum, minimum 5 million on a long term deal 1
Pears
We are far more likely to get Soucy for that price tag. If you want Graves you’re gonna have to add another $2 million at least.
BCNate
I expect Graves will get paid 1st pair money. He was a legit top pair D last year. Over the past 4 though he is more of a 3/4. I'd sign him 5x5 without hesitation, but I doubt that wouldn't be beaten
Coconuts
I'll just copy and paste my post from the other day, some folks seem to be pretty out to lunch regarding their expectations of what Graves will get imo. He made 3.1M last season, you're almost certainly not getting him for 3.5M-4M via UFA. I keep reading about how he'd be a good fit and I'm just like, you know there are other teams out there looking for D right? Has nothing to do with me being a downer, it simply isn't a very impressive crop of UFA's, which means the higher end guys will be in demand and likely command more. Let's take a look at D who played 50+ games last season. For LD you're looking at Jack Johnson (36), Brian Dumoulin (31), Marc Staal (36), Niko Mikkola (27), Ian Cole (34), Ryan Graves (28), Carson Soucy (28), Shayne Gostisbehere (30), Erik Gustafsson (31), Dmitry Kulikov (32), Dmitry Orlov (31), Nick Holden (36), Alex Edler (37), Matt Irwin (35), OEL (31), Calvin De Haan (32), Jordan Oesterle (31), Nathan Beaulieu (30), and Gavin Bayreuther (29). Some of these guys may not be back at all because of age, guys in this bracket include Jack Johnson, Marc Staal, Ian Cole, Nick Holden, Alex Edler, and Matt Irwin. Guys I've mentioned who I'd consider as being able to slot into one's top 4 are Ryan Graves, Brian Dumoulin, Shayne Gostisbehere, Dmitry Orlov, and maybe Carson Soucy and OEL. Six guys. Break it down further to the youngest of these six and you're looking at Soucy and Graves, both of whom are 28. Age matters because there's a better chance of getting longer term value from younger UFA's. If we look at RD UFA's who played 50 games or more the pickings are slimmer. Some of them are D who I've listed but who are listed as both LD and RD. They include Scott Mayfield (30), Troy Stecher (29), Justin Holl (29), Matt Dumba (28), Ian Cole (34), Connor Clifton (28), Carson Soucy (28), Shayne Gostisbehere (30), Kevin Shattenkirk (34), Travis Hamonic (32), Radko Gudas (33), Luke Schenn (33), John Klingberg (30), Dmitry Kulikov (32), Erik Johnson (35), Matt Irwin (35), Calvin De Haan (32), Jordan Oesterle (31), Nathan Beaulieu (30), and Gavin Bayreuther (29). Many of the same names. As with the LD some of these guys may not be back at all. For RD I could see that being maybe Kevin Shattenkirk and Erik Johnson. So for top 4 guys I'm looking at maybe Ryan Graves, Brian Dumoulin, Shayne Gostisbehere, Dmitry Orlov, Carson Soucy, OEL, Scott Mayfield, Matt Dumba, and John Klingberg. Mayfield, Soucy, and Graves are guys I keep seeing mentioned but if they make it to UFA they're likely going to be in demand. Also worth noting is that some players may not make it to UFA at all. For example, Isles may retain Mayfield, Kraken may retain Soucy, and Pittsburgh may retain Dumoulin. The more of these top 4 guys who extend with their current teams the slimmer the pickings, and the more leverage the remaining players have. Hamilton, Marino, Siegenthaler, and Severson were all ahead of him, and he was eventually pushed further down by Luke Hughes. Anyone expecting a top pairing D here are going to be in for a surprise. Statisically, he performed a top pairing D without question. He was in the top 30-45 D last season. Graves had a better season than all the guys you listed save for Hamilton and was the best defensively of the bunch. He does not play on the PP, or his minutes would have been higher than anyone on the team. Like I said, he will most likely get top pair money based on that season, but is much more of a 3/4 guy. What statistics are you talking about? He also played a more sheltered role than the people mentioned, so he should have had better metrics than the guys shutting down the top lines of the opposing team. I mean pretty much all of them, go check out Hockey reference if need be. Or the eye test, I watch a ton of Devils games, they are my second favorite team and I really like watching Jack Hughes play. Not too many "sheltered" D play 60% D zone time.
Bobby James
I'd give him 4.5 million (tops) or less for 5 years (max) or less. Unlikely he'll take that deal though cause I think someone will pay him 5+ million for 5-6 years. Chicago maybe to start building a better foundation around Bedard. Hairy Kneel
I'd do 5 x 5 Make the last 2 years tradeable terms. And we can ask him if he believes in what he sees PA is trying to accomplish here. He may take a tad less.
