I mean, I’d rather have just keep Burroughs than paid 3m+ for a 3rd pairing guy. Cole is fine as a filler.

Soucy played a lot more minutes on the PK last year than Burroughs. Calling Burroughs a PK specialist is a bit odd, even odder is JFresh having a picture of Kieffer Bellows in Burroughs WAR profile. He obviously didn’t spend much time preparing that chart.

Soucy is the big nasty Dman that the Canucks were missing. Similar to Nicolas Hague in Vegas. Burroughs tries hard but he is not the type of player who scares the opposition or who can effectively clear the front of the net.

Maybe that’s because Soucy practically played a full season, while Burroughs played half of a season? They pretty much averaged the same amount of SH minutes per game.

Soucy = 1:42

Burroughs = 1:45

Burroughs played PK on the worst PK ran in 30 years

Soucy played PK on a good PK team

Seattle was ranked 23rd on the PK.

I wouldn’t considered that good. Certainly better than us, though.

The fact that Soucy played a full season plus two rounds in the playoffs tells you he has alot more experience than Burroughs.

The goal was to add seasoned veterans to the lineup to make the playoffs. That’s exactly what we did. Burroughs was signed to a contract by a team that may finish in the bottom 3 teams next year.

The fact that Soucy is on his third team and hasn’t really progressed, tells you he isn’t anything special and teams made him expendable. Soucy actually regressed from his first year with the Kraken. The Wild didn’t even think twice of protecting him in the expansion draft, even though Dumba was there to be left unprotected.

Like I said, if they want a seasoned vet. Then they should’ve gauge interest in Dumoulin. A guy who is familiar with the front office and actually won the Stanley Cup.

JR/PA know Dumoulin better than anyone.  They either preferred Cole and Soucy or Dumoulin didn't want to come to Vancouver.  As for Soucy, The Wild signed him to a 3-year $8.25 million contract which is almost identical to what he got with Vancouver, so it's not like they thought of him as a borderline AHL guy.  They left him unprotected because of cap reasons, lots of players were left unprotected in the expansion draft.

Soucy was signed in the first few hours of free agency and was given a full NTC in his first 2 years, which tell me he was wanted by several teams...

Basically going to replace the position of OEL at better value. Though this does hurt in the final year or his deal where OEL's cap penalty is at 4 million since the combination of that plus Soucy's contract will be a bit higher than what OEL's cap hit would have been.

It will be like OEL is back

I probably would have preferred if they kept the contract to 2 years to be honest

Exactly what this club needed to do with Luke Schenn taking his deal at Nashville, which is Smashville again with Luke Schenn.

this club loves Big Men…

With guys like Quinn Hughes and Hronek and Hirose and Rathboone, the skating is there, the breakouts are there and the skill is there

But without a steady net clearing presence on our back end, Demko and Silvos get run nightly and whenever a liberty can be taken on the forecheck it’s taken.

It’s the Ying to Yang of our over skilled and under sized Uber Number One D man that is needing a long term deal in a few years time.

This draft was all about rebalancing the roster and looking to our neglected Number One D man and saying, shit, if we don’t do something, he could be the next Johnny Hockey.

So Alvin did something at the TDL and at the draft to reallocate resources to the neglected defensive core for now and long term.

In a rounded way that included size over skating….

But Soucy can skate and if he hits you, your out of the play.

He hits less than Luke Schenn, but was more than OEL.

But with Ian Cole as well, the Hits and Size and Experience as a successful stay at home d man in too four minutes in the NHL, whether they play at a top four level, well does Myers?

Its the minutes, the steadiness and experience with size and the ability to play physically in our end and at the Blue Line that is why these players were singed and it’s a thoughtful approach with a dearth of sub 1 Million dollar contracts in the right places on our roster ATM.

When and if Garland and Myers 11 million in cap space is freed up, hopefully this season, this team will get the rest of the way in terms of putting the contract value we’re it belongs and building around the Core 4.

Petersson, JT Miller, Hughes and Demko.

Crosby, Malkin, Letang, Fluery.

see any similarities?

If Willlander and Hronek and Kuzemenko can be successful with Vancouver and the trend of our development in Abbey can make up gains in our Prospect Pool, we have a solid foundation to continue forward.

I am not saying that our core four is better individually or not that the core four players in Pits that Rutherford built around, but their roles are identical and they have similar strengths and weaknesses as the our young players and JT Miller…

What we had, a great goalie and a legit Number one d man and then a lot of 4/5/6 D men filling in the 2/3 spot.

just a changing of the deck chairs with never having a Number 1 guy and only 2/3/4 D men.

Hronek is a legit Number 2 guy, Ian Cole played the 3rd most minutes for Tampa last season as the. 3rd d man, and Soucy and Myers are 4/5 guys with size.

Juuslen, Woo, Rathbone McWard Hirose Wollanin and Brisbios can duke it out…

I think this core has better depth and resilience than the last one and as soon as the Bonus is paid to Myers, he becomes really tradable for us, so that’s a future 6 m savings on cap space and 25 million paid out this year to address a good try but failed attempt to fix the D core by JB…

The fan base will bitch but we should be happy with logic and reason being applied by management in BC….

Unreal?

I liked Burrough's compete level but he's no Soucy. Not even close. I like the upgrade

Soucy was one of Minnesotas best players against us in the play in series in the bubble.

He is a welcome addition.

Cap will go up, if we offer 2 years chances are he signs elsewhere.

I agree. I also felt he was Seattle’s most noticeable defender for positive reasons when we played them. I look forward to what he can do in Vancouver.
