Yea but Karlsson has value.

Granlund and Petry have none.

Not sure why San Jose would ever take that Granlund contract.

Let’s face it teams that have poster boys like Crosby on it get favours done for them all the time. It’s still the old boys club.

The craziest thing was hextall gave up a 2nd for him last year!!!

  • -Vintage Canuck- changed the title to [3-Way Trade] Penguins acquire Erik Karlsson, Rem Pitlick, Dillon Hamaliuk, 2026 3rd-round pick; Sharks acquire Mikael Granlund, Jan Rutta, Mike Hoffman, 2024 1st-round pick; Canadiens acquire Jeff Petry, Casey DeSmith, Nathan Legare, 2025 2nd-round pick

Well with San Jose being in our division I was hoping they’d get a weak return so I’m happy with that.

They went from asking for three 1st round picks to getting one late one.

Dubas also blowing his load early with the Pens. He just turned them into the Leafs real fast.

They have to make the cap work to move Karlsson.  He's been all over media saying that he wants out.  Wouldn't it be a distraction to keep him when it's evident he doesn't want to be there.

Yea but they seemingly got no value for taking on that contract. It makes no sense for San Jose.

The way I look at it, Pens gave up a 1st, 2nd and DeSmith for Karlsson & 3rd rounder

SJ received a 1st round pick for Karlsson

Montreal received a 2nd round pick and DeSmith for taking Petry’s contract (25% retained)

In a way all three teams won. Pittsburgh added a Norris level dman for essentially a late 1st and a 2nd. San Jose gets a solid asset back for a player that ate up a lot of cap space and didn’t fit their compete window. Montreal gets a 2nd and a solid backup for taking on a player who played 22 minutes per night, averaged 0.5 points per game at 4.8M. If they decide to retain 50% and trade him they could fetch another 2nd rounder.

Montreal definitely runs away with a huge victory here - especially since they also got to dump cap.
