WHL rocks
Can someone explain to me the haters logic? On tsn.ca the anti-Canuck crowd is saying this is an awful deal. He's a defenseman who's averaged 40 points per season the past 4 years. 6 years, $5 million per. Meanwhile New Jersey signs Zajac to 8 years over $5 million per season, but that's ok? Huh? Master Mind
Glad to see us sign him long term. And at 5 is pretty good, it's so much better than what most contracts will be. Our D is set for a few years now too.

The Bookie
Awesome! Also, vaguely poetic - sign one Alex on the eve of lockout, sign the other Alex on the eve of the (real) end of the lockout. The long nightmare is over....

UFCanuck
Probably Toronto fans, their fans and media love belittling our players and making them seem less valuable than they are.
Ilya Mikheyev
Stoked on this. One of my favourite Canuck defenseman of ALL time.
Smashian Kassian
All the Toronto networks keep replaying the Stoll goal on Schneider. Then they show the kings lifting the cup. They skip everything in between...jealous idiots.
shiznak
Good signing, exactly what he'll get on the open market. Not sure why people think he gave us a discount. Remember that the cap will go down (or stay the same, however you want to look at it) to 64M. We're not going to see guys get overpaid anymore, unless you're a team who needs to get to the cap floor. Jai604
Pretty sure he would have gotten more on the open market. Obviously less now than before the lockout, but still upwards of $5.5m. Pre-lockout I would think teams would have thrown over $6m at him, $6.5m highly likely.

oldnews
Is Gillis a reliable source? I won't believe till Dreger says so

Baggins
I hate NTC's. You want job security? Play well, consistently, there's your job security... I'm not calling Edler lazy or anything, that just my view on NTC's in general.
Bodee
I think these guys like Edler sign deals like this BECAUSE of Gillis............simple as that. He epitomises an organisation that seems fair and decent in their dealings with the staff AND the Community. Part of the reason I love the Canucks. elvis15
We are over the cap next year so Ballard and luongo will have to go at some point before the start of next season... Hope his back holds otherwise that will be a crippling long contract
eretz canucks
its a great deal- Edler is trending upwards and I bet he finishes top 10 in Norris voting this year. Hamhuis and Garrison I think will also have really strong years and I think all 3 will finish top 20 in norris voting.
bossram
It's a great deal. There is no doubt teams would be offering 6+ million for Edler. 5 million is a great price, and the term is perfect.
Canuck Surfer
Who is a worse (your choice of words, I like Ballard) defenseman on the Canucks making $4 mill??? Bally aint the worst d'man making 4+ mil on the nucks.. but probably the only one without a NTC... sucks i like him. hope he gets a ring with us ........... same with Lu. Canuck Surfer
Derp; I criticized Gillis last year. Well, maybe it was justified last year. Dude is on fire now!!! Burrows, Garrison, (even Raymond with a chance to recover), Edler, Schneider, toughness, size, depth... Top 6 forward for Lou (perhaps Ballard) in some combination and we have ourselves a repeat exec of the year. And best quote (paraphrase) of the night; someone mentioned something to the effect; "thanx Eddie for givin back to the fans!" And Mr. Alexander Edler; we are also privileged to cheer for your team because you are here!
