mpt
This guy is a head case, he'll never make the NHL
Sanford
Gillis doesn't get enough credit for not picking this guy. A lot of people wanted him over Hodgson.
The Lock
The only reason why people here want him is because he's local. If he was from anywhere else no one here would care. Hodgson was BY FAR the better pick.
tas
You cant know that at age 23. Its like you wrote him off for dead and he is taking up 5mil in cap space. In our case, Yann Sauve has all the tools to become a top 4 guy in todays NHL if he ever grew a brain. The canucks would never expose the guy to waivers but they HAVE to, and the rules state the team that takes him must keep him for the year. You cant stick him on waivers again and put him back down to the AHL. He has to stay up with the team. Canucks cant stick Kyle Beach on their roster. I guarantee you that if a team could take Beach and put him down in the AHL he would get 25 claims. Same with Sauve. They are one attitude adjustment and one good year away from being solid prospects again.

coryberg
I remember it another way, I remember most of us was scared that Gillis would pick Beach and skip hodgson.
elvis15
To be clearer, you can put him on waivers after picking him up, but the original team get's first rights and then so does everyone else. It's only after a new season starts that the original team would lose the right to claim him first and it's not an automatic that we could assign him to the AHL after picking him up, which was what the post was replying to. higgyfan
Some of the fans around here get all goofy over 'the big players' and here's a 1st round pick that's looking like a bust. Our little squirt Schroeder is looking to have a better career than Beach. Oooooohhhh 6'3 and 210lbs 23yrs old and hasn't played a single NHL game. Nice to see that even good teams like Chicago can pick duds now and again.
mikeburn
A lot of players have already peaked at 23 as far as their ability to develop their game. After 23 it is all about understanding the game and adapting to it to create longevity.
Absent Canuck
i think he's confused between trading a waiver claim and asingning him to the ahl. A team can claim him but they would need to place him of waivers once again to send him down, but the original team could put in a claim and if they get him the. They don't need to put him on waivers to immediately asking him to their ahl team. The claiming team also cannot trade him until the playoffs are complete
timberz21
If a team really wants Beach, they will wait he clears and then trade for him for a 7th rounder or another AHL prospect who is a similar bust.
KING ALBERTS
Well, you just said it. Cody is a Sabre. So we were left with nothing.

timberz21
That assumes they even want him for their AHL team. Since no one picked him up, they certainly don't want him on their NHL team.
adniel_g
Lol guys come on now. Hodgson just signed a multi yr contract, this guys on waivers...lets not argue on whether we should have drafted Beach over Hodg, its a bit of a joke to compare them. SamJamIam
In a draft year that had so many good players go in the 1st round, this pick was quite a waste.
