DownUndaCanuck Posted June 30, 2017 Share Posted June 30, 2017 Murphy's been terrible in Carolina and never lived up to his hype which is the risk with drafting defencemen with high picks, but you never know. He's only 24, had a brutal season last year and won't get a sniff of NHL time with Calgary but will probably be their number 2 or 3 guy in the AHL. He could always have a Schultz like year in a couple seasons time, you never know. Lack and Smith is an interesting goaltending combo. They had to do something about their goaltending and they did. Props to Calgary for addressing their needs. They aren't the best guys out there and they're still relatively weak in net, but their needs were addressed all in one off-season. They'll probably try and sign another forward and they're set. Foo + Smith + Hamonic + Lack + UFA forward (Marleau might be an option it seems). That is one BIG off-season. I still think they're pretenders, not contenders, but you have to admire what they're doing in Calgary. Going all in for a very short window, it should be fun to watch.
