Swing Clowe

With just days to go before the NHL free agent market opens up, TSN has you covered with the most recent free agent rumours and updates.

The New York Rangers will not be welcoming forward Ryane Clowe back, according to TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun of ESPN.

The Blueshirts had interested in retaining the Newfoundlander but their' decision not to use a compliance buyout on Brad Richards put them in a financial bind where re-signing Clowe became impossible.

LeBrun tweeted that the Rangers were attempting to trade his rights at Sunday's NHL Draft.

Devil in the Details

After providing Sunday's biggest headline by acquiring Cory Schneider from the Vancouver Canucks, New Jersey Devils' general manager Lou Lamoriello set to business on the rest of his roster on Monday.

He signed Dainius Zubrus for three more years and - according to Rich Chere of the Star-Ledger – also spoke with a number of other players.

Chere quoted Lamoriello as saying he'd like to re-sign pending UFA Marek Zidlicky, that he'll soon begin negotiations with restricted free agents like Adam Henrique and that the team has held discussions with incumbent back-up Johan Hedberg in the wake of the Schneider acquisition.

Striking Oil

The Edmonton Journal's Jim Matheson speculated about possible upgrades for the Oilers on Twitter on Sunday night.

He tweeted that he expects GM Craig MacTavish to make a “full court press” for UFA-to-be Nathan Horton.

Matheson also speculated that Blackhawks forward Viktor Stalberg might be a good fit for the team's third line.

Go for Clowe? It could work if we leave Booth, Ballard.

Don't need Clowe nor have the cap space to do it- we have a younger faster version in Booth that I'd like to see play a full season next year and Kassian who should get proper ice time to develop.

Panthers fans have stated that booth has never been the same since getting concussions. I'm not sure how long we're going to hold on to him before we realize it. Good player yes just don't know if he's worth his current salary.

Booth is awwwwful. He had one good season and has had multiple concussions/ other injuries in his career. Hockey is a business and if Clowe is available, he'd be a huge upgrade on Booth both offensively and defensively

We've barely seen enough of Booth to make a judgement like that. Injuries have plagued him yeah, but as long as he can stay healthy next season who knows what he can do? People say he is the type of guy who might thrive under Torts so let's see.

Uhhmmm eerrmmm really? The guy is slow as molasses contributes like a 4th liner and is asking for 2nd/3rd line money.

I'd much rather keep Booth and Kassian and hope both stay healthy and just find their game instead of overpaying for a guy who is past his prime for his role in the game.

Kaleta syndrome.
