ISS/CS Draft Rankings - 2014 NHL Entry Draft

I think the issue with Perlini is the inconsistency. He is loaded with talent but last year his totals were non existent . If there is one top prospect who is a complete question mark its Perlini in my opinion. He could end up an all star or in the ECHL.

You know, despite all the negative reports on how Perlini had a bad playoff (offensively), that he's inconsistent, plays a perimeter game, and doesn't like going to the tough areas. He's still ranked in the top 10 in every expert's drafting list. So, clearly there's something special scouts sees in him, that all these doubters don't.

Careful. Logic is frowned upon. Replaced by selective statements and arguments over who's cherry picking who's stats.

(Basically, my prospects can beat your prospects)

I think it would be wise to draft Thatcher Demko or any other goalie in this draft with our second or third pick. Lack is 26 and our 3 other goalies are 24, so by the time Demko or another goalie is entering the AHL those guys will be entering there prime.

Or we can just sign them as late bloomer free agents, like we did Lack.

There are more pressing needs, such as LHD and RHF.

LHD?

Our NHL ready crew at least runs 4 deep; Hammer, Garrison, Edler, Stanton. At RHD we have just Bieksa (contract up in 2 years by memory), Tanev and prospect Corrado. Then our next 3 or so closest to ready (?) prospects all stride on the left side; Anderson, Sauve, Hutton, Tommerness and going deep McNally... The next RHD is very deep on the depth charts, years and many questions away; Subban.

Drafting defense should most certainly be a priority as that is not a crew which will likely prop up the team someday. Especially so on the right side!

I really hope Dal Colle falls to us. I honestly haven't looked into Leon that much, will probably do that soon. Nylander looks like a very good player. His play-style is similar to Patrick Kane. Wonderful hands, finesse skater, and his shot isn't to shabby either. I'm just not a big fan of how Ritchie and Virtanen play. I don't really want a Rick Nash/Bobby Ryan kind of player on this team. I want a big time sniper, an extremely dynamic player that is extremely skillful, and i just don't think Ritchie and Virtanen bring that. Although, Virtanen has a good shot. So, if Dal Colle falls to us, I take him without hesitating. If not, the BPA for the Canucks needs is Virtanen.. so I would take him then.

Tonight I listened to Jeff Paterson interviewing Ross McLean (ISS scout for Western Canada)...Paterson asked McLean if he could give the listeners a quick report on players the Canucks might be picking 6th...So Paterson volunteers Perlini and Fabbri...Go figure..!

Apologies if this has already been posted but some good info on Leon here. He seems quite a dynamic player, and his through the legs pass in the video was outstanding awareness.

http://www.mynhldraft.com/2014/NHL-Draft-Profiles/Leon-Draisaitl

I must admit Dal Colle is the guy I would want. He seem to have great vision, great positioning sense and above all he is a sniper par excellence. He also plays with and has a great chemistry with Cassels.

I just hope one of Dal Colle and Draisaitl drop to us. Those are the guys I really want in the first round other than Ekblad, Reinhart and Bennett. So basically any of the top 5 ranked players.

According to the latest list (see OP's update) Draisailti has come in at 6th, so we may yet be able to acquire him if that's who we want.

ISS actually has Fabbri ahead of Ehler in their final ranking.

However, ISS has a better track record. No one cares about, where they go in the draft. It's all about, who will be better. That's why ISS is on everything. That's why, your point is meaningless.

ISS isn't known for having an excellent track record

Schefiele not in the top 15 in '11.

Galchenyuk at #14 in 12'

Bogosian #2 & Filatov #3 in 2008. Zac Dalpe ahead of John Carlson & Erik Karlsson, exc.

Mayorov, Gillies, Backlund, & Espositio ahead of Couture. Brandon Sutter at #30. Exc.

They have an opinion, but I don't hold them on a higher platform than other sources.

What is everyone's current thought on Julius Honka?

During the year I heard early 2knd round, then as high as 10 or 11? Summary of opinion by memory was 17.

Worth us trading to get a pick in this range?

Mid 1st Round, he was underwhelming in the WJ's for me, but I really like him.

I don't think we will will get him unless we end up with another pick around the 15+ range.

For all you Ehlers supports yes he may be a good young player but he has slipped in the ISS rankings to 11th. I just don’t see a reason to pick him at 6th when the chances are a lot more of someone in the top 5 dropping to us.

Really looking at the ISS final rankings, the top 6 players stand out more than the rest and we should be glad to have anyone of them. I welcome our sixth overall pick with open arms.

Cant go wrong with draisaitl or dal colle. Although Nylanders combine results were impressive there is something about him that screams bust.

If Virtanen is around at 10 I would do that deal with anaheim.

Draisatl/Dal Colle+ Virtanen>Reinhart.

I would love to trade up but I dont think we have the assets

These guys aren't going to be NHL ready

based on what? great analysis you've made there. this whole "only the 1st overall" is NHL ready presumption on CDC is ridiculous. anyone in the top 5 could break in to the NHL and have great success, in a deeper draft i'd say the top 10. we have a great chance of getting a top 5 player falling to us and seeing him in our line up.

No. He was ranked by ISS 11th May 15th as well. Your facts are incorrect.

I agree. Wouldn't mind us going after NYI's 5th either. One of Tanev or Hansen + for their 5th.

I might be inclined to take Fleury with the 10th in that case though.

Take two of Draisaitl / MDC / Nylander / Virtanen (depending on who is left) with the 5th and 6th and Fleury with the 10th.

Everyone keeps saying that this is a weak draft year. Not sure I agree.

I think the reason everyone is thinking that is because there no clear cut #1 pick this year. There's about 5 different guys that "could" be chosen #1.

You don't really know how a draft class will really turn out for about 3 - 4 years, but I see a lot of depth in the first couple of rounds. Lots of guys who have the skills to become really good NHL players.

I just don't see the next Wayne Gretzky in there, but that's alright! That type of player doesn't come around all that often!

Doesn't mean this won't be a good draft class!

Sorry all mighty troll.

EHLERS IS STILL 11TH!! Not sixth.

So you can take your daily trolling in threads and starting random arguments and get out of the basement and get a job and a life.

You don't need to go around looking for every small mistake and call them out.
