Roughly 14 million to spend on two roster spots

A very underrated player, I would assume because of the team he plays for doesn't get a lot of airtime. Love this guys style and play but at 33 he ain't getting any younger. But, 2 year contract? On board with that.

Seems that's exactly what happened :)

I don't understand the signing of Miller at $6M per season.

Other teams were not that interested in him because of his playoff performance with St Louis...I would think that the Canucks could have got him for $4.5M per season; and if not, they could have signed Hillier for $4.5 M and still have a lot of cap room to work with.

Their paying more for Miller than they would with Luongo... I hope Miller can stand on his head and save pucks.

If he performs like he did for St Louis, then his goose well be cooked.

No, they aren't paying more for Miller than Luongo, and his term (i.e. how many years) is a fraction of Luongo's.

Actually We are Paying 6.8 to have miller and not lu.

So Miller Cap Hit is 6M and he is paid 6M

Lu Cap Hit is 5.33M and he is paid 6.7m

We are still Paying Lu 800k

It's costing 6.8M for miller to be here instead of Lu VS 6.7 for Lu to be here.

You are correct on the fact that the term is better though.

I thought that capgeek was kind of a good resource on examining those numbers--where were you getting your numbers from? Not saying you're wrong, just honestly unsure. I know there are a lot of subtleties that capgeek might not pick up on for contracts straight away etc.

Assuming Tanev gets around 2.5 mil, Kassian gets 1.5, and Hansen is on his way out (Dorsett makes him expendable IMO), we have roughly 14 million to spend on two roster spots.

We obviously have holes in our top 6 and on D, so what is the best way to spend this money? Does Benning sign a goalie?

What are some options people like? Statsny? Bolland? Boyle? Niskanen? Iginla? Richards?

FORWARDS
Daniel Sedin ($7.000m) / Henrik Sedin ($7.000m) / Zack Kassian ($1.500m)
Nick Bonino ($1.900m) / Nicklas Jensen ($0.863m)
Chris Higgins ($2.500m) / Bo Horvat ($0.894m) / Alexandre Burrows ($4.500m)
Brad Richardson ($1.150m) / Shawn Matthias ($1.750m) / Derek Dorsett ($1.633m)
Ronalds Kenins ($0.680m) /
DEFENSEMEN
Dan Hamhuis ($4.500m) / Kevin Bieksa ($4.600m)
Alexander Edler ($5.000m) / Chris Tanev ($2.500m)
Frank Corrado ($0.591m) / Luca Sbisa ($2.175m)
Ryan Stanton ($0.550m) /
GOALTENDERS
Jacob Markstrom ($1.200m)
Eddie Lack ($1.150m)
BUYOUTS
David Booth ($0.000m)
Keith Ballard ($0.000m)
RETAINED SALARIES (1.16% of upper limit)
Roberto Luongo ($0.800m—15.00%)

This is a very challenging question.

I say re-sign prust, crack and bart

Agreed. Vrbata's gone by the TD at this rate. Hamhuis I'd take if he signs for cheap. Get rid of Weber. Just get rid of him. We seriously need to ink Prust though, what a player he's been for us.

In the perfect world I think we keep some skilled veterans + rookies, some gritty utility veterans + rookies and some tough veterans + rookies. That would give us the perfect balance for a team up front.

Skilled: Sedins, Vbrata, McCann, Baertschi, Shinkaruk

Utility: Sutter, Burrows, Higgins, Hansen, Gaunce, Kenins, Horvat

Tough: Dorsett, Prust, Virtanen, Cracknell

Personally I think we're going to need to do more than let UFAs walk. Some of those utility players are expendable, as are the tough vets. Prust has been huge for us this year but do we really need Dorsett, Prust and Cracknell in the same lineup when we've got Virtanen as well coming through?

I think we're going to have to trade one of Higgins (most likely), Hansen or Burrow (less likely), let Vbrata walk or trade him at the TD ideally, and either let Prust walk (rather not) or trade Dorsett (much rather).

TRADING OUT: Higgins, Dorsett, Vbrata

RE-SIGNING: Baertschi, Prust, Cracknell (at least for Utica)

Those outs could easily provide us with some nice value at the trade deadline.

Then we go nuts with UFAs. Sign Lucic or some other top-6 scorer to replace Vbrata. Sign a top-4 defenceman. Happy days.

Sedin - Sedin - Lucic

Shinkaruk - Sutter - Burrows

Gaunce - Horvat - Hansen

Virtanen - McCann - Prust

Baertschi
