Monty
Flight of the Navigator +1 for mentioning an incredibly underrated film. For me, I'm going to say Children of Men. It's sort of sci-fi.

Ghostsof1915
The title of the thread is movie OR franchise. 2001, because it makes you think. The tension and gamesmanship in the scene is terrific!
TOMapleLaughs
The Matrix. First movie, not franchise. Terminator 2. Movie, not franchise. Original Star Wars Trilogy, not franchise. Empire Strikes Back, if I had to choose one movie. Aliens. Again, movie, not franchise. The Road Warrior Inception Event Horizon Starship Troopers, hehe, yup Predator, original Watchmen Independence Day Star Trek 2, The Wrath of Khan. Still beats all others imho, even the newer ones. Khaaaaaaan! Followed by the Borg one. Dune, the original innacurate and flawed movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind Tron, the original The Ice Pirates, yeah baby. Total Recall, original War of the Worlds, Tom Cruise 2010 The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension. Pffft.
RUPERTKBD
Because it's not a "franchise" It isn't? Does it take more than 2 movies to be classified a franchise? Because I'm pretty sure that 2010: The Year We Make Contact was made into a movie... BTW: Blade Runner for me and I'll add a couple of lesser known movies (with very similar titles) that I liked.... Outland (starring Sean Connery) and Outlander with Ron Perlman, John Hurt and Jack Huston

Jester13
Hands down 2001: A Space Odyssey And for those of you who haven't read the book... DO IT!!! This movie defies all regular conventions, but seriously watch the movie, then read the book. It will make you love the movie even more. IMO there is no other movie/novel out there that can compare to the plot of 2001. It goes beyond all political space movies and the like, and instead places itself within the ever important existential questions that we here on earth have been trying to answer since civilization began... and then you realize in the book that we are so far behind asking these questions, as others have been asking the same thing for much longer than we have. Dun dun dun! :D

ilduce39
Love the genre.. but if I had to pick it's Star Trek. Enjoyed all the incarnations I've watched, though I'll admit I never got into that most recent series.
CroSen
Back to the Future as a franchise, although Star Wars and the Trek Movies are pretty close. Often depends what mood I am in. Godzilla also deserves honorable mention.
