shazzam
The problem I have with the benching in the third, is that things are going good up until then. We are leading and then we decide the shorten the bench. Now we've given up a lead in the third period twice now?
Grape
Playing 4 lines, including the kid line, got them into the lead. Once Willie shortened his bench, they were playing not to lose and as is common, they did just that. It was the vets who made the mistakes leading to the last two Washington goals not the kids. Why not stick with the same strategy in the third that worked in the first and second?Sedins created the 2 goals, not the kids, just to point that out. hatedkid666
Another question to raise is why would he put the kids out with 30 seconds left when we're down 1 goal?
hearditall
Willie was brought in because he was good with young players. Now is his time to show he can develop these guys and put them in situations where they can succeed. To me this is just a distraction from the fact that Willie still hasn't been able to figure out his lines 7 games into the season. He may have started the season late, but the players didn't. The lack of scoring is a direct result of the lack of organization in preseason.Pittsburgh, Anaheim, L.A. are still juggling lines & trying to figure out things. .Does this mean Boudreau, Sutter, Johnson are the "direct result of the lack of organization in preseason." ??? ice orca
It's quite evident that Willie is aware of this . The Sedins comments before the year that this was basically a "write off" year or a "transition year " as they worded it was proof to that . I like Willie's thought process in this instance in trying to get the young guns to play more aggressive, however he's guilty of speaking out of both sides of his mouth like management has been numerous times . He's demonstrated that he's afraid to put the young players in the positions that he speaks about. Do they need to be aggressive out there? No doubt, they often look like they're taking no chances out there and playing it safe . But Jared is leading the Canucks with goals and has done great in the offensive role and the second he shows some inexperience in the defensive zone he's benched and has even been put into the press box because of it. Again, I understand his reasoning but he's speaking out of both sides of his mouth In all honesty judging by how they've said they've literally pencilled in Virtanen since March , they're almost showing that they're are stubborn and trying to prove, since others taken after him are playing in th NHL, that they made the right pick . They keep parroting that they are following the Detroit model yet the wings would never be taking this route with one of their prospects . Jake did not dominate his league the last year, for whatever the reason, is up to debate . However, He's at a crossroads in his career . Do we want him as a third line banger or do we want him as a top line all around threat? He has a lot left to learn in the W Imo and that involves dominating offensively . We rushed Kass when it was clear he belonged in the AHL, don't make the same mistake with Jake .. The Wings have let Larkin play and he is doing just fine, very rare for them tho. Nuxfanabroad
Thought it was TOO EARLY to shorten the bench..like, perhaps with 10 mins left in the 3rd? But hey, they're all pro coaches right?! I mean if they need to shorten the bench, starting with warmups..who am I to critique?!
Hairy Kneel
Seems the last two coaches panic and start double shifting the Sedins and whoever other veteran they prefer (Prust/Dorsett). If the coach doesn't have confidence in his full roster he should say so to JB. Get the guys he needs.or thinks he needs.Going with only 3 lines have hurt us before. LOLI'm pretty sure Getzlaf & Perry will get more than their 14 pts they are on pace for as well.

Both are struggling at the end of the day at the beginning of a LONG season....Are the Canucks supposed to be Stanley Cup contenders THIS YEAR? If so I was never aware of it or still don't see any sign of that this year...A lot of new faces & young guys trying to fit in. This does take time, In some cases years. (eg. EDMONTON)... 1st everybody wants the young guys to get a chance and 7 games in to a young season the coach has no idea what he's doing after coming off a superb +100 point season.HELLO????? Hopefully RGW can learn from the constant mistakes and get better.
snucks
Blowing leads in the third happens when a coach fails to adapt to game situations. All the players that played to get the lead need to play to protect the lead in the third period. As well there was a time in the third period where Dallas started to really take over, so why not take the time out and actually coach the team ? A coaching change is needed because this is yet another case of the coaches not adapting to the game. The rookies don't need the same "grooming" Willie gave Horvat last year. Wake up Linden ! They aren't playing in the minors anymore. It is like this coach is still in the minor leagues. Last year his insistence in keeping Vey on the team was an example of it. In any case if WD stays, he has to have more faith in the rookies, at least they can skate. Maybe Dallas has the coach Canucks should have got. A great example would be Nungent-Hopkins. They need to slowly come up, I like what he's doing. Virtanen hasn't done much outside of hit to warrant more than 12 minutes of time.
