word through the grapevine is Gaunce isn't a very nice person. Been told he's pretty much a bully.

This guy will not last long in an NHL, let alone Canucks sweater.

I can't wait for the future to unfold when Gaunce gets traded/cut/waived, so I can finally say I &^@#in atoadaso.

Wow, cool story bro.   When he was drafted, there was talk about his leadership and in Utica they raved about how well he did in the "room".   If you are going to go "there", why didn't you mention that he hangs out at clubs with Virtanen where they overeat together.

Do you remember a guy call Burrows - scored 10 goals in his first 125 or so games including 3 his entire 82 game second year and many people started talking about him like you are above now.  I see CDC all-time greatest thread is about Burrows.

Warhippy, you said it yourself that one game does not make or break someone. Yes Gaunce scored 2 goals last night, but this is a statistical anomally. That five-hole goal was pure luck. The other one was a nice pass by Loui and porous defense by Chicago, all while shooting on an AHL goalie.

He is still on the fourth line getting fourth line minutes, while you said that he was going to be a middle six player, possibly top six. You need to finally come clean and admit that was a ludicrous statement.

Career -10 player, Corsi of 45.6 (so generally hurts us on the ice). Faceoff percentage of 45.1%. Wasn't he supposed to be the next Malhotra according to some?! Not gonna happen when losing more than half of the faceoffs. Manny never had an average dip below 50%.

On top of everything else, word through the grapevine is Gaunce isn't a very nice person. Been told he's pretty much a bully.

This guy will not last long in an NHL, let alone Canucks sweater. Sure, he is pretty good defensively but that is all he does.

Like same grapevine as rob zepps sources? Maybe he was miserable to the grapevine because he had the flu...

Jokes aside I've heard the complete opposite to what had heard about gaunce.

He will likely score a decent 10 to 15 goal level in NHL if given the chance  as he can move at NHL pace and has great possession numbers to go with his game.   He scored decently in junior with seasons of 28, 33 and 31 goals followed by 11 and then 17 (28 prorated to full season) in AHL.   If he gets decent minutes, hard to see that level of offence drying up over time given he is only likely to improve still given his age.   Who knows for any player but this one has the tools to make it happen.

I stand by this.   Given his role, it is amazing he even gets chances but he continues to grow and I wouldn't be surprised to see him be 15 goal guy at some point.   He currently has double the number of goals as Henrik, same as Nick Ritchie, one more than Troy Brouwer etc.    He isn't in the line up to score BUT he has the ability to do so and has demonstrated that at every level he has played.   I remain of the opinion he can at NHL level too.

I doubt it is the same - my sources are magical.   Remember?

Magical doesn't equal imaginary

Does for some apparently.    Human sources cannot be imaginary but they can be magical.   They can also have a great sense of humour and enjoyed reading about their non-existence!

It is funny to look back into the archives of the Brendan Gaunce prospects thread. You get a real idea of how far he has fallen, both in fan perception and as an actual hockey player.

And here we are, Gaunce scored no goals last year, has 1 career goal that was scored off of his butt, and is on the very edge of bust status. I've heard the guy isn't too pleasant either. I think its time to make room for other prospects who are knocking at the door. We no longer have room for Gaunce, unless he becomes a totally different player this year. Right now, he's a bum.

My favorite part of all this is where you claim to have superior and insider knowledge, then hope to hell he fails just so you can say I told you so.  Makes you seem REALLY smart and like you really care about the overall health of this team.

AJ put it all very simply and dismissed your cute numbers which were not only cherry picked but totally taken way out of context in an attempt to justify your position.

Simply put, hoping one of our guys fails shows the kind of "fan" you are.  Have a gooder

The two goals was certainly a good boost... but lets not forget that he could have easily gotten like a 5 point game.  Obviously if he put the puck into the EN, he could have gotten the hattrick, but he also set up 2 grade-A chances for his teammates.

The pass to the slot for Granlund and the mid-air pass tip-in by Sutter.  With all due respect to those players.... if you switch up Granlund with Boeser, and Sutter with Bo, perhaps both those chances might be goals.

That's what most of his stat-line only reading detractors always miss... on average he creates about 1 good quality chance per game, and he's a 4th line/PK player.  A quarter of his chances goes in... suddenly he's a 20-25 points player.

If there's a problem with his game, it's that he's not quite engaged enough.  I guess as a natural centre, he's used to watching and reacting to plays unfold rather than initiating things.  As a bigger guy on the team, he should be manhandling players along the board and throwing his weight around more.  At times he reminds of a Taylor Pyatt.... times he could really just paste someone along the boards or just be a real bull in a china shop.  Once in a while it comes out, but you just need more of it.

I haven't been on here a lot because of how hectic work has been. Caught the highlights of Gaunce's goals and i'm not going to lie I was so a little emotional. It's so nice to see a player finally get rewarded after so long, especially since he was one of my favourite prospects. I really like his attitude and defensive game and hope he figures it out offensively in the NHL :)

You watch these kids and on many night defend their games on these boards. Gaunce having offensive production is not his #1 objective but when it happens you fist pump the TV screen and smile. Totally agree with you that Gaunce has the ability of becoming that d-side forward who can be a major leader on this club for years. I still say that how he winds up his season and where is development is at that point is what this season has been all about. He has become a NHL regular and can continue to build from there.

Funny I thought that last game. I remember Burrows’s first season, he only scored 8 goals I think, playing on the 4th line. He scored a hat trick in one game near the end of the season. He came back the following year being challenged by the coaching staff to score more as his D game was solid. Then boom, the growth of Alex Burrows goes on from there. I just had shades of those memories the other night when Gaunce almost got his first hat trick.

If it means anything to anyone, I worked on a video shoot last November with Hutton and Gaunce and Brendan was incredibly polite and was more than willing to converse with anyone on set. Not that he's Gretzky or anything but he still treated everybody as if they were all equal, and he wasn't afraid to have a laugh and mess around. We had one of those prank shocker things on set and he and Ben both took turns trying it to see how long they could go. It was hilarious. He and Ben also brought their own sticks from practice and signed them for whoever wanted them.

So either the guy is a real jerk or he signs sticks for anyone! These forums make me laugh! Not you by the way...

In video land, most hockey players are just fine. Can't say the same for basketball jerks. Only guy I didn't care for in hockey was Kelly Hrudey ( and he really wasn't that bad ).

oh man

another thread with recent postings

where people have a strange sense of certainty about and so need to post their projections about the career path of a player

gaunce has played around 110 nhl games

i think he is still figuring out the game at the pro level

this is the best hockey league in the world when i last considered that issue

i like the analogy to burrows

gaunce may turn out fine, he might not, still too soon to tell in my view

so long as he is still on the team and being granted playing time

his odds of making it improve

While playing tough defensive minutes.  Not doing all THAT badly taking that into consideration.
