RetroCanuck
Im not happy about the NHLs decision and greed regarding the Olympics. Players and fans want to see the best of their countrymen competing n the Olympics. I think that if the NHL sees that fans won't watch the NHL games, they may change their mind. Lets get this petition going around and see what happens. If someone has a different petition with more of a following let me know and Ill update. https://www.change.org/p/national-hockey-league-boycott-all-nhl-games-during-the-2018-winter-olympics-on-tv-and-in-person

lmm
never liked pros in the Olympics. I'd like to see the best Jrs go. Don't like the compressed schedule. Happy with this decision.
-AJ-
Sorry to be a downer, but I think the owners already know how much fans want to see the NHL in the Olympics and have considered that in their decision. Don't see a petition doing much.

If i was a Pittsburgh owner i wouldn't mind a huge picture of Crosby scoring the golden goal...
Neko
Remember when NBA players played in the summer Olympics? They won every game by a million miles. With lower level players in Olympics hockey, it'll be a wider range of competition.

It would be a silent protest but one that hits the pocketbooks directly #recycleyourjersey ? or something like that.

Happy with this decision. I don't know how on earth you haven't enjoyed the last 20 years of Olympic hockey. I am not looking forward to going back to the old days. We already have the World Juniors, World Championships and Spengler Cup. I don't need the Olympics to be another Spengler Cup again.

VanGnome
For once I actually think the NHL made the right decision, even if for the wrong reasons. The Olympics was never conceived for professional athletes to compete. The entire purpose of the Olympics was to celebrate the achievements of AMATEUR athletes. I was never a fan of pro sport leagues allowing their players to enter the Olympics, and now these players feel as though they are ENTITLED to attend. The event isn't even FOR them, even if the focus of the games were changed to accommodate professional athletes for purely greed reasons: Quote The evolution of the Olympic Movement during the 20th and 21st centuries has resulted in several changes to the Olympic Games. Some of these adjustments include the creation of the Winter Olympic Games for ice and winter sports, the Paralympic Games for athletes with a disability, and the Youth Olympic Games for teenage athletes. The IOC has had to adapt to a variety of economic, political, and technological advancements. As a result, the Olympics has shifted away from pure amateurism, as envisioned by Coubertin, to allowing participation of professional athletes. The growing importance of mass media created the issue of corporate sponsorship and commercialisation of the Games. World wars led to the cancellation of the 1916, 1940, and 1944 Games. Large boycotts during the Cold War limited participation in the 1980 and 1984 Games. IMO the Olympic Games should revert to a purely amateur focus, but won't because people are stupid and corporations are greedy. Every media analyst saying "people want to see the best of the best". That's bull$&!#. Corporations want to make as much money as they can, and cannot market adequately without the help and support of pro athletes. The media needs to stop sugar coating the motives behind why people are unhappy with the NHL not accommodating the Olympics in 2018.

Jägermeister
The owners know that the fans want NHL players in the Olympics, they simply don't care. A petition isn't going to give them a change of heart.

The Olympics are about putting the best athletes against each other in their respective sports regardless if they are considered amateurs or professionals. By that logic an athlete like Micheal Phelps should only be able to compete in one Olympics.

Well for years all the eastern bloc countries were paying their athletes to compete year round, that is when they opened the floodgates to anyone. There is more diversity in the NHL, for example team Sweden, Russia, Finland, and of course Canada. All these teams have excellent talent, while in the NBA team USA is always the superpower. With that being said, Canada is usually really stacked compared to other teams lol.

ThaManbeast
They should push the world championships into the summer and have the best players compete there. The world cup wasn't a bad idea but it's not the same when you have Team Europe and Team North America in it.
Rush17
the entire Korean region could become a war zone within the next 12-18 months. I find it interesting they say no the same time trump says will deal with n Korea ourselves if China won't help. could be an asset managment thing. but the lead up to this point just indicates they weren't happy. the sad part about this. these players make their franchises millions/billions of dollars. Olympic pariticipaton shouldn't even be in the hands of the league. this should be no a brainer. the owners should let the players go so they know their guys are happy. it should be a right and the league ott to stay out of it. they are basically saying they own the players and they decide their fate. there should be more respect for the players. if u say they can't compete then don't do the world cup either. it's just more games on a tightened schedule. that's one of their arguments. it's just owners and betman being greedy terds. I hope Ovi and many others just go.
