(Speculation) 3 way trade to land PK Suban

I am not adverse to getting Subban, but his value isn't what it was a few years ago.

The proposed trade is way too complex to make happen.  We could probably get a better and younger D than Subban if we managed to get all those assets from Calgary and flipped them.

So we take take on nearly 15mil aav, which includes another erikkson like bad contract with more term for the sole purpose of getting a declining 30 year old d-man...

What makes you think Subban is declining? Because he's 30?

With Subban, you're getting at worst a 40 point dman and potentially a 60 point guy. At full cap, he would cost 9 million a season for 3 more seasons (imagine being able to sign someone of that caliber on a 3 year deal only taking him until 33 and not buying his 35+ years, eg paying EK 12 million a season for 7 years). If he continues to decline, it will likely not be crippling to us in cap space. If he remains the player he's been, then we are getting full value and possibly longer should he click with our team and likely will be at a lower cap on his next deal (unless he plays lights out which also would be a bonus). So depending on the price to acquire, I would be all for it, especially if he's being looked at as a cap dump value for Nashville.

Acquiring James Neal won't be ideal for sure. However, if they are willing to pay to offload him (I'd take their 1st this year as we could possibly draft someone like Seider for example at their position), at the very least he should be able to provide some physicality on the wing for Pettersson and Boeser or may gel with a north-south line with Horvat and Pearson. First couple of years won't matter, but the last two could be a problem, but he has no clauses in his deal and could be bought out or moved with retention is he just isn't good for us. Calgary was deep in the forwards during the regular season and he would find more opportunity here (much like how it was for Pearson).

The idea of acquiring guys like Subban and Neal are to buy low on them and they may actually provide value for our team. Taking on the cap won't be a huge issue and their contracts aren't quite long enough to be a major concern IMO.

Just read the proposal itself and I certainly wouldn't do what is proposed, but I think it's worth looking into guys like Subban and Neal if they are being sold low.

Pass. Getting Subban just screams to me like yet another case of management trying to expedite a rebuild rather than doing it the right way, and it coming back to bite us in the ass down the line

We are in desperate need for top end dmen and RD is quite bare for us. While this may expedite a rebuild, I don't see how it would bite us down the line unless we pay an absurd price to acquire him.

Calgary is not going to give anyone a 1st and Dube for anyone taking on Neal. If they did that, a number of teams would line up to take it and then Calgary should fire Treliving.

I agree they likely wouldn't be moving a 1st and Dube, but maybe a 1st and Rasmus Andersson (dual benefit of shutting up the haters of the Baertschi trade)?

yeah but Neal. Neal. We have one like that already. Even if Jim is able to find a new home for Loui I still don't think we need to be talking on contracts like this on purpose. Free agency is risky enough.

Botchfords master plan hinges on both the first and dube, along with a sweetener going to nashville for pk. So of your changing the calgary deal it affects the other one. I do agree theres no way calgary would pay that to be rid of neal. I also doubt a later 1st and dube move the needle much for nashville in a pk move. All the speculation for them moving pk was the acquire some proven scoring up front while having fabbro replacing subban. None of this makes any sense for any of the teams involved.
