Botch took years to develop his relationship with the Canuck organization.Time to be trusted with inside knowledge and the wisdom of when to share and when to know to keep it firmly in his pocket.Players knew he was coming after the game. Some cringed, some enjoyed. After listening to his colleages yesterday you fully understood his brilliance at breaking down games and the small nuances he saw. These are people who sat and watched right beside him in the pess box. Some plays he thought negative and some positive. He showed both thru gifs in The Athletties.Botch was a fan of us fans and gave a large and carrying voice to most of us while also giving a platform to voice our opinion.A pioneer of that.Nobody said you have to agree with all that he said, but saying you disagree with much of what he said means you truly didn't get what he was trying to do as a media personality. It was nothing more than to try to make you think for yourself as a fan.How would you improve this team if what they're doing isn't working.Say it outloud on a forum. At least venting can be cathartic. Jason Botchford said they needed an army.Well I was totally in Botchford's Army.I followed along and watched as he lead the way that was absolutely different from all who said they were reporters for the Canucks. His pen was his sword. His beliefs his shield. Those that didn't want to join stood on the roadway and shook their heads and nodded at each other. What started as a small path in a new way of taking the Canucks to task thru reporting by Tony Gallagher was turned to a wide road by one Jason Botchford. I fear to see what the future holds those of us waiting until after the game ends.Sadly we may only be left with the sincafant reporters who kneel at the trough. or worse, the ones I click over who just break down the game period by period.God help all of us that can not suffer the mundane. I actually thought his 'Provies' was for sports media some of the most innovative work I had ever seen. It was humorous, tongue in cheek and informative. He combined video, social media with traditional text, and this video was often edited in interesting ways that would be humorous or provide minute analysis of a play, player or even fans What is more he would bring in tweets from fans that had funny or interesting commentary. It was brilliant and should have been more recognized.

The dislike was just part of what made Botchford special I wasnt a fan of lots of his opinions but at the same time he was one of us We lost one of our own no matter how you viewed his opinions Edited May 3, 2019 by naslund.is.king 1 1

*Buzzsaw*
I was not a big fan of his writing, but sad to see someone so young pass away prematurely. Best wishes to his family.
Smashian Kassian
Listened to the Patcast today & I thought Jeff truly did a wonderful job with it. I finally broke down listening to it. I put my opinion out on here that I wasn't on board with some of Botch's takes, but I could never imagine feeling so united to his work. (now that the unthinkable has happened). I truly appreciate all that Botch brought. Again, I hope even those who weren't a fan of Botch take 25 mins & listen to that last Patcast. A wonderful tribute from Jpat, at this incredibly difficult time. Edited May 3, 2019 by Smashian Kassian weren't*

Sedintwinpowersactivate
I loved listening to Botch destroy Pratt in debates. I’m 44 years old with 3 young kids. I’m going to the doctor to get a check up! So scary! RIP Jason!

atillaMYhun
Going to miss his personality in the Canucks' coverage mix. Loved the Provies/Athletties (joined the Athletic for the Athletties) Really feel for his wife and young kids. I have an 8 and 6 year old myself and that picture of them really makes me sad. Donated to their Go Fund Me and encourage everyone here to do the same if you can. RIP Botch.

Botch was so young and he clearly worked very hard to become a fixture in Vancouver sports media. I appreciated Botch's ability to speak to both sides of a story, even if he generally tended towards a cynical approach to the narrative. Botch also simply had an entertaining way of writing which, sadly, will no longer be available. Classy of Torts to note Botch's passing in his presser. I might be in the minority but I liked Torts and felt he didn't get a fair shot from management. Torts does have a tendency to go off the deep end from time to time, but it's always out of his zeal for the game and passion to protect his players. Well said. FireGillis
Man I've been listening to all the tributes on 1040 and it's just so sad. It's hard not to tear up listening to them. It's cool to hear tributes from Mike Gillis and Laurence Gilman as they were glowing in their praise for him. Looking at that family picture is tough knowing his kids will grow up without their dad.

2021Contender
RIP Botch. I always enjoyed hearing you on the radio. Especially the disagreements with Pratt! Your untimely passing made me appreciate how precious life is while it’s still here.
