That D is not impressive unless Timmins or Byram are somehow ready.

Exactly and that’s kind of a big If right now.

Long term the Avs will be the envy of the league. Next season they may struggle without Barrie.

Having Barrie walk in FA and a massive hole in the 2nd line is worse imo. Not a great move for either team honestly.

COL was doing to well with upgrading their team, until they traded away a highly coveted mobile elite RD for a repeat offender who plays without discipline or respect. As for TOR not being able to re-sign Barrie. Why wouldn't they? They just need to trade Nylander.

Watch Barrie go to free agency and sign with Vancouver. Dubas gonna Dubas.

I’m sure they know it’s possible but needed to shed cap added Kerfoot too even though Kadri is on a good contract.

Not teams with depth

If Karlsson is hurt San Jose is screwed especially now after the pummelling their forward depth took. Really only 7 or 8 teams can say one injury to a top dman doesn't screw them especially in a cap world.

I don’t think Sakic wants Nylander at 7 mil.  Kadri comes in at 4.5 for three more years.  That’s good value for him.

Problem is Kerfoot is unsigned along with Ceci and Marner and they have no backup and $11mil +$5 (Horton) in cap space

San Jose would be fine with Burns running the powerplay.

Karlsson is a luxury for them.

Kerfoot as a consistent, young 24 year old versatile forward deserves 2-3M essily, Ceci will probably want something similar which leaves Toronto with about 6ishM to sign Marner. Something's still got to give and I think it'll be Ceci. Would be a waste to let Kerfoot go too...

Wonder what the leads are gonna do.  Was reading an article about how they are poised to deal with a Marner offer sheet if it were to happen, and I guess it is true, since capfriendly shows them with 11.1 in space.

But it also shows Ceci and Kerfoot as unsigned.

Makes me wonder what they can sign these guys for (or, should that be "with" instead of "for") once Marner is sorted out.

Their bottom 6 sucks and their bottom 4 defense is trash, they got marginally ok even with this deal.

Bottom 4 defense? Toronto's top 4 is fantastic now with Reilly, Muzzin, Barrie & Ceci. Sure 5 & 6 are weak, but that's a very good top 4. Just because we all hate the Leafs doesn't mean we have to be nonsensical.

They're team took a massive hit losing Pavelski Nyquist and Donskoi their defense carries a much bigger offensive load now.

Their forwards are not the problem.

Thinking Makar or Byram can step into Barries role seriously underrates what Barrie did for that team.

They’re going to score lots no doubt. That doesn’t always equaL playoffs though. Gotta keep the puck outta the net too.

Isn't Barrie not very good at doing that?

Ceci isn't signed and is adequate.. hardly a great defense. Better than last year but that's not a high bar.

Do the Avs need Tanev? Lets move him, make some space for another UFA forward. By the time we play the Avs he will be injured anyway. Not wishing injuries on anyone.

Unfortunately we don’t have the depth to trade Tanev right now.

Maybe the cost for Ristolainen has come down and Benning can circle back around.
