Your JT obsession knows no bounds, does it?

Let's not try to kid ourselves that he's making these decisions on his own. He's not a dictator. As much as he's the 'leader' of our country, there's an entire group of people including medical, economic, political etc experts all giving their input and formulating what to do as the plan. He's just the lucky schmuck sent out to tell us what it is.

BTW, I tend to agree that we should close the borders to all non-trade related travel. That said, I can't expect there's a terrible amount of that going on at the moment anyhow.

You make no sense. I'm pointing out people playing politics because they support him.

My generation grew up watching Plague movies and it seems so surreal to actually be in one now.

yup. I'm not worried for myself, but I am for my parents and in-laws, both sets are in the very high risk categories. My daughter has a retail job which ism't thrilling to me either, but it sounds like they'll be shutting things down sooner than later.

for sure. I guess the question is, how much of that will there really be? what are they going to come and do? most of our major tourist areas are now closed.

At this point one person is to many apparently. So we can't be half azzed and say I doubt many will come.

thats why we need to see some of the analysis behind these decisions. If the science and basic facts point to a full on closure not making sense, then OK we have something to go on. So thats something I'd like to see. I've seen several articles talking in general about why border closure now won't work, but it would be good to get it from the gov't directly. Maybe I missed it.

When we come out of the other side of this, I could very easily have lost my 93 year old grandmother and grandfather, both parents and aunts and uncles.  The entire boomer generation is at risk of being wiped out

I think we need to follow the Taiwan approach.

Still wondering why my son's school is still open this week? Especially with spring break starting next week.

Which district ? an announcement is imminent I think

Most B.C. students could see their spring break extended beyond the regular two weeks as early as tomorrow because of COVID-19 concerns.

Health Minister Adrian Dix said the province's education stakeholders were meeting today to formulate a plan that would be revealed Tuesday.

"We have two weeks where schools almost everywhere in the province have shut down and we expect a formal announcement on this tomorrow [Tuesday]," said Dix.

For the majority of B.C. students, spring break is scheduled to end on March 30.

Interesting read here on whether or not Trumpy should shut down the NYSE: http://theconversation.com/should-trump-shut-down-the-stock-market-4-questions-answered-133671

The problem here is you'd have to shut down all major global markets. Tokyo, Hong Kong, London, Frankfurt, Paris etc. Otherwise you're just putting yourself at a disadvantage. What if people need to sell some stocks to pay bills? What do they do once their capital is frozen?

I have seen countries instituting short selling bans. South Korea banned it for 6 months. These bans don't work and really are just to quell public anger. To make it look like governments are doing something.

We haven't gotten notice yet, but I can pretty much guarantee were looking at at least 4 weeks beyond spring break and most likely have the plug pulled on the year.

I have a moral and contractual obligation to protect the safety of my students and my colleagues and I can't see teachers agreeing to return to work until this is over

Developed a fever yesterday afternoon/evening and woke up this morning with a dry cough, chest congestion, and wheezing in my breath. I guess statistically it's likely to just be a cold but I can't help but wonder. Getting through to that 8-1-1 number is painful.

I'm 4 hours into day one of self-isolation and I'm bored as hell but on a more positive note, my dogs couldn't be happier to see me stay home from work.

Take care, Monahan. Hope you’re feeling better soon.
