Exactly you can blame Covid all you want but other teams sure took advantage of the situation. Like when the Habs signed Toffoli, on a term and amount Vancouver could have afforded if Benning wasn't so obsessed with Sutter and Beagle or wanted to prove his 2014 6th overall pick was justified then Vancouver would have been able to sign some good players during the offseason.

Wrong.

 

Benning has done a great job in signing Boeser and Horvat to bargain contracts.

 

Where he has screwed up is his trades and signings of free agents.

 

He has overpaid for most of his trades.  He throws around draft picks like they were bubble gum wrappers.

 

And he has mis-managed his free agents... not unloading Canuck FA for picks when he knew he couldn't sign them, and overpaying for other team's free agents.  (exception Miller)

 

He is a very good drafter... that is his strong point. He should be the Team's Chief Scout not GM.
