Guy LaFleur wasn’t a drinker as much as he was a coke head. Got busted too. Ruined his career.

Met him at an obscure Laval, QC arena long ago after his career was over and talked about it. I was surprised how candid he was on the subject...

Didn't know that. But I do know he smoked two packs of cigarettes a day. He was often seen smoking in between periods...

Two NYR D prospects I’d be interested in for Virtanen.

Braden Schneider

6’2” - 209lbs

19OA20

Matthew Robertson

6’4” - 201lbs

49OA19

RHD Schneider would be the guy, but no way NYR let him go for just Virtanen, would need to add a decent pick or maybe entice them with Woo? I think we should target a RHD in a deal as we are paper thin and with Green as the coach Lefties like Tryamkin (hopefully) won't get to play on the side they prefer and are use too

He was a really heavy drinker, for many years.

Especially up until his 1981 car accident.

Lafleur would regularly drive drunk, but he would never get ticketed. The cops in Quebec would often just give him a police escort, and make sure he got wherever he was going.

One night though, after heavy drinking, Lafleur drove his car off the road, through a chain link fence, and wrapped it around a metal post. He was so drunk, he’d passed out behind the wheel. Lucky for him, because the metal post went right through the steering wheel, and embedded itself in the driver’s seat, but miraculously it mostly missed Guy, since he’d already passed out and slumped over. It just grazed him, and sliced off part of an ear, which would require plastic surgery. (However, Lafleur was still so drunk, when brought to the hospital, the doctors refused to operate, and waited until his blood alcohol went down to safer levels.)

After that brush with death, Guy said that he would cut back on his partying.

Schneider should be interesting to literally everyone. RD, solid size, good offensive instincts. Gonna cost more than the guy we continue to not trust. Much more. They'd ask for Hoglander before entertaining the idea of Virtanen for him.

Miller, Miller, Hugues, Hughes.

That’s the goal.

My prediction is that Jake will be gone by this trade deadline.

Further predictions - I think Aquilini will clean house this off-season: Benning is gone, and Green won't be back - not because ownership doesn't want him back - but I don't that he will want to be back with the way he was treated this season as a lame-duck head coach. This organization needs better structure...Benning and Weisbrod are not the answers at the top of the management chain. Sorry. They've had 7 years to rebuild this franchise, and while not all is bad under their leadership, they sure aren't as far along as they should be given the amount of time they've had to right the ship. I don't know any other profession where you are given 7 years with a clear goal, and not being able to meet those goals consistently and still have a job after all of that.

Lol ok bro....

If Canucks put Virtanen on waivers he pbbly clears.

With loss of revenue from empty arenas and no end in sight to the pendemic teams will be tightening their budgets next season. No one wants to pay a 4th liner on a bottom feeding team 3.4 million including 400k signing bonus next season.

IF he gets moved it will be in the summer and similar type player and contract coming back.

No one taking him without sending a bad contract back.

How on earth do we have 64 pages about a rumour on Jake!??   Canucks forum will crash and all data lost if he actually gets traded!

nah, there will be 640 pages on how Green mismanaged him and a whole separate thread on how now he'll be Neeley.

I don't think he could be another Cam Neely if he gets traded.   Cam Neely played hard when he was with the Canucks.

I jumped up and down in my kitchen when I heard on the radio that the Canucks picked him.   He was a power forward who played like a power forward before he got traded.   He went on to be a superstar in Boston and even helped Boston developed the team that beat the Canucks in 2011.  Imagine what would have happened in Canuck history if he wasn't traded and stayed a long time Canuck.

Jake V has potential but will not reach the height of a Cam Neely.
