I'm going to reroute back to what we've been missing. JB needs to get Tryamkin signed at the end of his KHL contract which ends next March or April, in time for us for next seasons playoffs. 1st unit pk guy. Shut down guy for either Hughes or OEL. 4M for 2 years (show me deal) should do it.

Covid messed everything up but we need the big guy. Can play either side.

ps Unfortunately, this year's playoffs look out of reach.

Rebuild meaning keep Petey and Hughs mainly. But that could include Boeser, Pods Hog, Rathbone and Demko.

We only need to do a 1/2 rebuild because we already have 2 pieces in Petey and Hughs. That wasn't the case just a few years ago. We have already endured some of the rebuild pain. In 2014/15 a rebuild would have taken 4-6 years minimum. But now it would only take 1-3 years.

There will be somebody who says a rebuild means Petey should be traded too. That's wrong. The only reason you are rebuilding is to get players like Petey and Hughs so its insane to start trading them. Trading them is how you become the Oilers.

You need to have success, then fail, then start to rebuild.
We came close to success......we've been failing, we've been rebuilding, or haven't you watched the team in the last 10 years?

Its really F^*%ing redundant to rebuild, in the midst of rebuilding.

Sportsnet 650 talked about something interesting.

Comparing the Canucks to the Av's.

How 2014 they made the playoffs, and they thought the core at the time was fine. Then the team derailed in 2016.

Roy resigned.

And they re-jigged, they didn't blow up the team but moved some key pieces to make a better core. Especially on Defence.

Not quite the same, but a good example if the core you have maybe doesn't have the pieces you really need maybe just make a few trades. I just don't think we can find a team as stupid as Ottawa to trade with. (Maybe the Coyotes?)

Never think about that it is the main pieces that are not working?

They are the highest value players on the team by a large margin. Petey will get back to his old self. His first 2 years plus playoffs was not a fluke. Plus according to some hockey writers, Petey was the best player in the 2017 draft.

Either way. You are stuck with the players that you draft. They are priceless trade wise. You'll never get the same value back. Hughs will be and is totally fine too.

Its pure insanity to think of touching Petey or Hughs.

But we had 2 massive busts in Virtanen and OJ. So we are short at least one top player through the draft.

If you have a Kane/Teows Crosby/Malkin Perry/Getzlaf pairing on the team, you are almost guaranteed a cup. Without that pairing you risk mediocrity

What is he getting paid in the KHL ? We should be able to just out bid the KHL.

Looks like we were trying to get him for a million bucks a year and weren't willing to over pay

Our core is still young so I don't think there needs to be another rebuild.

I'd like to see what this team can do with new coaching/management personnel though.

Petey's been awful this year but it's still very early and who knows, maybe he could blow up next year and get back on track.

Everything has been abysmal and he's just another part of that.

Patrick White, Nathan Smith, Josh Holden, Libor Polasek, Jason Herter, Dan Woodley.

Those are busts.

You can't predict injuries. So I give OJ a pass. Yes it still sucks.

We got almost 300 games out of Jake. Can a GM predict a guy will commit career suicide with his off ice actions. No.

Were there better choices? Sure. Ehlers especially. But very easy to say in hindsight.

Sergachev would look fantastic on this team right now.

His early contracts were @1M but must be more now. KHL isn't at the same rate as here. I would guess maybe 2M and tax free probably. And in his home town.

Or Tchuk, he was the most obvious pick.

For Petey’s sake Green and Benning has to go first.

Petey has probably 50 points less than he would have playing under Sutter in Flames with much less toi. No wonder if he’s frustrated with how Green wants the team to play.

He needs a fast paced system with quick releases.

Demko and Horvat is definately a must going forward. It’s really hard to find a goalie as Demko and Horvat is almost the only heart left of the hearty players like Marky, Tanev etc…

Rebuild would have to involve trading Petey as he'd be leaving as a UFA anyway.

No they wouldn't. That's insane. And he isn't leaving as a UFA either.

There is no point of a rebuild if you are just going to get rid of the assets you accumulate anyway. Which is exactly what trading Petey is.
