He also left them with 2 cups and a perrenial playoff contender.

Who gives a $&!# about picks when you have that core?

Reading this thread it seems as though people care more about late 1st round picks than Stanley Cups

Not to mention they have very tradeable assets if they really do want to blow it up. The guy having a hissy fit about Rutherford is really doing his best to ignore all context.

Undefeated in the Stan Smyl era. What a ride.

Yeah...we better put an end to that asap. Too bad, I trust Smyl and was looking forward to see if he could make a difference with the Sedin's et al. Alas,  it was not to be. I hope Rutherford works out.

Everyone acting like Rutherford is going to blow it up by tomorrow morning.

He is going to come in and do a full assessment of our team, while forming a vision. From there the new GM will come in add to that and execute said vision.

We aren't trading our first rounder, Boeser, or Miller this week so calm down

Exactly. If you look at who those 1st rounders ended up being, not really much lost for a couple of cups and a bunch of kicks at the can.

There is not one fan who wouldn't give up a few firsts for a cup. You need to be careful to be sure that the few good players we have here are enough to take us to a cup.

I do not see a McDavid or Crosby or  Malkin.

We have a top end D man and a struggling Petey. Those franchise players come in the top five of the draft. The next two drafts are good ones. We all want a cup. What we don't want to do is to be rebuilding again in 5 years. With no cup to our name. There will be a time to go all in but is it now?

That is up to Mr Rutherford to decide.

McPhee makes the most sense due to his history with Boudreau, his connection to Vancouver, his familiarity with the Pacific division, and his recent success in Vegas.

Him or Lombardi should be the front runners if they’re interested IMO.

Reading between the lines though ...

It was reported that they will be looking for someone to mentor under Rutherford.

McPhee or Lombardi don't need mentoring. Could be someone younger.

I'm still hoping it's Gillman.

Also unrelated to your post, but I hear a lot of complaints about Rutherfords age, Lou Lamorello is I think 6 years older than him so it is what it is.

So far we have hired the 2 best available guys for their job imo, in JR and BB.

Everyone? I see one person having a fit while almost everyone else is either willing to wait and see or is already onboard with the hire.

No real reason to panic yet. It hasn't even been a day.

Although I like him Lombardi might not fit with Bruce or Rutherford. Remember his teams were total opposite style to Bruce and Rutherford. McPhee vegas style might be more of a fit.

I would give one ball one kidney and 10 1st round picks for 1 cup parade down Robson.

Rutherfords discarded pinky nails GM capabilities >>>>> Benning and Weisbrod

Im in the opposite camp. I want to see a consistent playoff team without selling the farm. Maybe a late pick here or there to help.
